There are many MMOs, but few can captivate with a good story. Which MMO offers the best plot?
Finding the “perfect” MMO is not that easy. Some players place a high value on an action-packed combat system, others want as many mini-games as possible, and yet others prefer balanced PvP. Today, we will talk about a point that is often neglected in MMOs: the story.
When it comes to story depth in MMOs, there is a damn wide spectrum. This starts with a Scarlet Blade that has some silly reason for why all women are half-naked and have to fight constantly. But it also goes up to complex stories for each class like in Star Wars: The Old Republic, which can draw on many years of source material and captivates thanks to voiced dialogues.

Cortyn says: I find it quite hard to decide here. When it comes to the sheer scope of the story – with all its books, comics, and so on – not much comes close to World of Warcraft. The universe is vast, coherent, and I have probably spent more time in it than is healthy for any living being. However, I also really enjoyed the story of WildStar . It was laid-back and silly, yet dramatic and sad at the right moments. However, the “ending” kind of shocked me and did not meet my expectations.
I also thought about SWTOR, especially because of the many dialogues and decisions. However, these decisions often seem insignificant or ultimately lead to the same consequence, which makes the plot feel forced for me in many moments. It would like to be a single-player RPG, but due to its MMO character, it can’t be.
Therefore, World of Warcraft is just ahead for me, albeit by a narrow margin.
