MMOs reveal details before the release
Online games can hardly hide anything: With online games, it is usually difficult to keep new features and details of upcoming updates or addons a secret. New areas and features are often extensively tested on test servers or during beta phases.
For example, in World of Warcraft, it is common for many players to be invited to long beta tests before the release of new addons, allowing them to take a close look at the new details. This also applies to the upcoming Battle for Azeroth, where numerous features and a few story bits are already known.

Information as a PR stunt: It seems quite different at Bungie and Destiny 2. There, all information about the upcoming expansion Forsaken is currently being revealed.
It is already known that our favorite Vanguard Hunter Cayde-6 has to meet his end and that the Prince of the Reef, Uldren Sov, is responsible for it. Additionally, there are plenty of information about new areas, new enemies, and the upcoming abilities that the Guardians can choose from with the expansion.

Let’s Plays or streaming sites like Twitch allow you to watch the desired game for a while and then decide if you want to play it yourself. The fact that a lot is revealed in the process, especially in story-driven games, seems to be just a side issue.

Now it’s your turn: What type of player are you? Do you want to know everything about the game beforehand? Do you try to block out all information about upcoming releases? Or do you perhaps check out new games on Twitch or YouTube first? How much do you want to know about games and addons before their release?
