Last week in Destiny 2 was all about the “Prometheus Lens”. For one week, it was an absurdly powerful fusion rifle that made its way to Destiny 2 with the DLC “Curse of Osiris”.
Watch the enemy melt
Basically: Keep the thing on a target, fire, and watch as the enemy melts away. Players immediately realized: Okay, this thing is seriously overpowered.
There was even a fear that Bungie might disable the Trials of the Nine just because of this item, which was obviously buggy.
Trials would have been totally unfair: Whoever had the weapon would have a strong advantage. Those who were unlucky and had not obtained it by then would have been at a disadvantage.
Prometheus Lens for everyone!
Bungie also admitted: Yes, this thing was released with a bug, we will fix it next week.
But then something strange happened: Instead of the Trials being canceled, Xûr brought the Prometheus Lens right in time with the Trials on Friday night. Now anyone could buy the weapon and become powerful with it.

9.5 million kills in the Trials – over 90%
Ultimately, almost all kills in the Trials of the Nine were made using the Lens. 9.5 million out of a total of 10.5 million kills are said to have been achieved with the Lens, according to reddit.
Since the patch on Tuesday, that has come to an end. Bungie says that while the weapon is fun, it makes it impossible for anyone to use any other weapon in PvP.
The weapon was therefore nerfed into the ground by Bungie and intentionally made far too weak because there was not enough time to design it properly. They plan to address this with a later patch.
However, there were two positives during the laser tag week in Destiny:
- For one, many are now saying: That was the Destiny we wanted. It should always be this fast and crazy. Destiny has always been the most fun when players could break it. Maybe that’s a hint in the right direction for Bungie.
- And on the other hand, players found a way to still have fun with the Prometheus Lens:
