Console or PC? Xbox or PlayStation? For Cortyn, the matter is clear: Keep quiet, on all sides.
Happy Wednesday to my dear readers on console and PC. Yes, from the differentiation, you can already tell where this journey is heading today. Last week, we had a post about a console gamer who switched to PC to fight against the prejudices of console players.
And as admirable as I found the whole action (because the player was really good), it bothers me even more that such a situation exists at all. No matter where you look (at least on the Internet), PC gamers see themselves as the great elite, and even among console players, the war breaks out. PlayStation is of course only for casuals, Xbox is only played by Microsoft fanboys, and we don’t even need to talk about a Wii, as that’s only for little kids.
It’s just this wonderful cliché of a common enemy. As long as gamers can unite against a foe – like the strange portrayal of first-person shooters in some media – everyone can pull together. As soon as that threatens to be forgotten, everyone loses their minds again and sees themselves, their console, or the PC as the crown of creation. But at least it can be seen with some crude humor, like the guys and girls from Flashgitz, who summarize this in this nice video:
I would be happy if gamers increasingly presented themselves as a community that doesn’t care about which logo is on the game console, which input device is used, or which graphics card is hiding in the PC.
Does this eternal “PC players are better than console players” and “PlayStation is better than Xbox” talk get on your nerves too? Or do you even enjoy this conflict and if so, why?
Let me know in the comments. I’m now starting with my grand graphics card and my “8-euro-Microsoft-throw-me-away-keyboard” Overwatch.
