In Pokémon GO a Halloween event took place in the last few days, which has now ended. However, trainers are reporting a nasty surprise after the event: Their special research has been reset. We at MeinMMO have looked into what happened and will show it to you.
What kind of research is it about? As part of the Halloween event, which ran from October 15, 2021, to October 31, 2021, trainers of Pokémon GO received the new special research “What hides behind the mask?”.
In the meantime, the event is over, but as is common in the game, special research can still be completed after an event ends. However, some trainers have experienced a nasty surprise in connection with this task.
Bug resets special research “What hides behind the mask?”
As trainer MygodStudio reports on reddit, he diligently worked on the special research during the Halloween event. However, after the event ended, his progress was suddenly reset. He writes: “Catch 40 ghost-type Pokémon and reset the progress after the Halloween event ends”
It quickly becomes clear in the comments that MygodStudio is not an isolated case. Other trainers are experiencing this problem and are writing the following among other things:
- GeordieAl: “I did the same thing… one account reset, one account is still at level 3/4!”
- Panic-Plus: “This happened to me too! I just logged in and fell back to 0/40… I caught a Gastly to see if the problem would resolve itself, but no! I think I had 38/39 of the 40. This kind of thing definitely makes it harder to play these tasks.”
More reports of resets after the event
However, special research “What hides behind the mask?” does not seem to be alone with a reset after the event. Hyduya writes: “My 7 km egg that was supposed to hatch a few minutes before the end of the event has also been reset.” (via reddit.com).
Trainer bcr3125 further reports that even all his special researches have disappeared after the end of the Halloween event (via reddit.com). After restarting Pokémon GO at the recommendation of another player, however, this problem was resolved.
Can trainers fix the problem?
Similar to bcr3125, trainers have tried to recover their progress according to their comments. Unfortunately, without success. Affected players currently have no choice but to redo the tasks.
Summerclaw describes this situation in the comments with a bit of irony: “Cool, I will never finish it” (via reddit.com).
Whether Pokémon GO will fix this bug soon or whether trainers really have to redo all tasks to complete the special research is currently unknown. If Niantic comments on this, you will find out here at MeinMMO.
