Master X Master is a bit like the Heroes of the Storm from NCSoft, as in addition to various original creations, we encounter both heroes and maps from well-known NCSoft franchises. We will tell you which ones.
Imagine if you could also step into the shoes of your favorite hero in other games! Not only for you, but for the gaming industry, this is an attractive concept. This way, they can make their heroes and villains more well-known and simultaneously give the “new game” a starting advantage. Blizzard has already successfully marketed the MOBA Heroes of the Storm through this concept. NCSoft is pursuing a similar concept in Master X Master.
Old and New Heroes
In contrast to Blizzard, however, the Koreans do not only want to recycle old ideas but also send new creations into battle. However, the well-known heroes are clearly the favorites of the audience. NCSoft has not chosen some generic characters, but rather celebrities like the grumpy Charr Rytlock Brimstone from Guild Wars 2 or the archvillain Jinsoyun from Blade and Soul.
Guild Wars 2 – The Wild Catwolf and the Death Dungeon!
Arenanet’s unusual MMORPG impresses mainly with a captivating story that actively changes the game world. Additionally, there are a number of cool NPCs in it, lovingly crafted by the story team. One of them is the wild Charr warrior Rytlock Brimstone, who often meets all Charr heroes in Guild Wars 2 and grows into a mentor role. Later in the story, he becomes the archetype of the Revenant class. In Master X Master, we can play Rytlock along with his flaming sword Sohothin as a wild damage dealer.
However, with Rytlock, the Guild Wars 2 content in Master X Master does not stop. Unfortunately, we do not yet get any additional heroes (*cough* Taimi *cough*), but one map that packs a punch: The first major dungeon back in Guild Wars 2 – the “Catacombs of Ascalon.” The dungeon was a tough instance that cost many players hours of their lives. In Master X Master, the Catacombs of Ascalon are a co-op map that resembles the original in structure. Even the fire-breathing gargoyles and the nasty final boss Adelbern are back.
Blade & Soul – Shooting Girls, Archvillains, and a Whole Raid!
NCSoft’s Kung-Fu MMO Blade & Soul also belongs to the repertoire of Master X Master. Here too, NCSoft does not hold back, but throws two formidable endbosses at us. On one hand, we get the cool endboss “Poharan of the Black Ram” as a heroine. In Blade & Soul, she was the first boss opponent we faced in a raid instance.
This raid is the “Reserve Depot of the Black Ram,” which also appears in Master X Master. If we defeat Poharan at the end, we unlock her as a character. Poharan is already a cool character with her minigun, but it gets even better. The second character from Blade & Soul is archvillain Jinsoyun, who is an excellent melee fighter with her sword “Dawn Edge.” Jinsoyun is such a big deal in Blade & Soul that they even created a musical for her in Korea.
This is not the end! On Page Two, you will learn that in addition to a killer hamster from WildStar, a hero from Lineage Eternal also appears in Master X Master!
