A former employee of BioWare has spoken disparagingly about the late video game critic John “TotalBiscuit” Bain. Apparently, he holds a grudge against him for the criticism of Mass Effect 3 and Need for Speed: Rivals. He also has some other issues with the late YouTube star.
BioWare developer attacks the dead harshly: As reported by Segment Next, a former BioWare employee, David Crooks, has spoken disparagingly about the death of the popular video game critic John “TotalBiscuit” Bain. The YouTuber passed away a few days ago from colon cancer.
Trigger was probably criticism of Mass Effect 3
The world is better without him: In the tweets, Crooks called the world after TotalBiscuit’s death “a slightly better place.” While he admits it is rude to pee on someone’s grave, he then does exactly that.
Shitty criticism: According to Crooks, TotalBiscuit expressed “shitty criticism” about two games he worked on. The criticism was neither helpful nor useful, but it happened to be among the most viewed videos by TotalBiscuit. Apparently, he means Mass Effect 3 (2012) and Need for Speed: Rivals (2013). This image accompanies this statement. TotalBiscuit criticized both games in his videos. Here is the video about Mass Effect that Crooks is probably referring to:
YouTuber allegedly berated women and minorities
Toxic community: Additionally, Crooks accuses the YouTuber of never managing his toxic fanbase. It was so bad that it forced developers to hide. The YouTuber allegedly used a “laser beam of disdain” to boost his own position on reddit. Crooks also accuses him of connections to GamerGate. The YouTuber supposedly worked overtime to tear down women and minorities.
Fuck that guy: The tweet series from the programmer concludes with the sentence: “Fuck that guy nine ways to sunday, and good riddance to bad rubbish.”
Statements spark outrage: David Crooks’s statements have stirred up quite a bit of dust. They are being sharply discussed on Reddit. Apparently, Crooks has now realized the stir he has caused and has switched his Twitter account to private. However, the tweets are spreading online.

Update 27.5. 0:00 hours: It seems that Crooks recently worked on Mass Effect: Andromeda at BioWare. The team was dissolved after Mass Effect: Andromeda turned out to be a commercial flop. The team was largely integrated into EA Motive. However, Crooks’s LinkedIn page stated that he was still working for BioWare.
BioWare distances itself from the statements
Casey Hudson speaks out: On Saturday evening, BioWare’s head, Casey Hudson, distanced himself from the statements on Twitter. He refers to Crooks as someone who was formerly part of BioWare. The statements do not reflect the views of BioWare, EA, or his own. Hudson expresses his condolences to John “TotalBiscuit” Bain’s family.
