Does the Mass Effect franchise still have a bright future? At least that’s what a developer promises in the video…
November 7th is a very special day for fans of Mass Effect. Because that’s “N7-Day”. N7 is an elite unit of humans in Mass Effect and an important part of the story – so it only makes sense that the developers celebrate Mass Effect with the community on November 7th.
Yet for many, the 10th N7 Day was rather disappointing and the video on the occasion of the anniversary almost cynical. “Now the 10th anniversary reminds me that one of my favorite games has died in such an ignoble way,” and similar comments can be found in abundance.
Especially annoying is a statement at the end of the video: “The future of Mass Effect is really great. People want to know more about the locations and these characters.”
This annoys some fans. Because Mass Effect is currently on ice. Although story DLCs for “Andromeda” were originally planned, production of those was halted. BioWare is currently working hard on Anthem, and the former team of Mass Effect: Andromeda has been divided among other productions.
Others are happy about the nostalgic feelings the video evokes and enjoy a few more moments with their beloved characters.
It is quite possible that this “retrospective” video was produced many months ago, when Mass Effect was indeed still dreaming of a bright future.
In the best case, the video is an indication that we might hear from Commander Shepard or the Ryders again in a few years. Or at least from Liara.
However, even the hardcore fans don’t have much hope anymore.
What do you think of this “10 years of N7” video? A nice tribute to a franchise that has meant so much to many for a long time? Or just more salt in an open wound?
