Mass Effect: Andromeda – DLCs are indeed really canceled [Update]

Has a story DLC for Mass Effect: Andromeda been canceled now? A rumor is circulating and causing a stir.

Update: Although the message below from “Sinclair Networks” apparently was a fake, they seem to be right in their general statement. The colleagues at Kotaku have confirmed from three anonymous sources at BioWare that the DLCs for Mass Effect Andromeda have been canceled. Many storylines will probably never be resolved – or maybe picked up again in a very distant future in a Mass Effect Andromeda 2.

Original message: No matter how you turn it, Mass Effect: Andromeda was received rather mixed by the fans. Many couldn’t get into the new galaxy, and some annoying bugs at the release of the massive RPG marred the gaming experience. When Electronic Arts then announced that the “Mass Effect” franchise was put on hold for the time being, the disappointment was huge.

The Austrian company “Sinclair Networks” declared on Facebook that future story DLCs for Mass Effect Andromeda have been canceled. Originally, BioWare had commissioned them to refine the game post-release and to add DLCs, as was the case with the other “Mass Effect” games.

Canceled DLC for Mass Effect was a fake

The catch is: The company Sinclair Networks probably doesn’t even exist! Not only has no one heard of the company, but BioWare also denies ever having worked with Sinclair Networks – let alone having heard of them.

The producer of ME:A, Fernando Melo, stated on Twitter:

“Although we can’t talk about the future yet, I can definitely say that we create our DLCs/patches for the games ourselves and do not hire fake companies for that.”

Michael Gamble from BioWare also says: “I have never heard of Sinclair Networks. Never.”

Apparently, the statement was a fake that wanted to get some attention and generate sentiment against BioWare and Mass Effect. It seems to have worked, as heated discussions about the topic took place in forums and on Reddit.
