In the universe of Mass Effect: Andromeda, there is plenty of love – and many paths lead to success in romances.
For many players, the fate of the galaxy is not the focus in Mass Effect, but rather the small stories of the individual characters encountered in BioWare’s universe. Especially exciting are the “Romance Options”, meaning the ability to develop a relationship with certain companions.
But how exactly do relationships unfold in Mass Effect: Andromeda?
Relationships in Andromeda are designed to feel “more real”, meaning that trust is built through dialogues and actions. Depending on the character, this may take longer or happen faster – all companions are independent and diverse.

It is important to note that the player is by no means the only factor in these stories. The other characters are “alive” and have their own interests, preferences, and especially interactions with each other. It is quite possible that relationships develop among the team members as well. The opposite is also conceivable – conflict and discord between different species are quite common in Mass Effect. If the player tries to “get closer” to a particular person, other characters may find it repulsive or even question the hero’s authority.
Ultimately, everything in Mass Effect: Andromeda should be significantly more dynamic, and the relationship aspect should be more in focus. The classic “I give a few compliments and then we end up in bed” – as was the case in Dragon Age – should no longer exist… unless a character is particularly receptive to it.
How far the player’s fidelity goes is a completely different matter. But even the NPCs might not care much about fidelity. There have been examples in Mass Effect 2 and 3 where certain NPCs suddenly sought closeness to someone else (Yes, I’m looking at you, Jacob!).
How it actually is, we will know in just under 2 weeks. Because on March 23, Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released in Europe for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
