On yesterday, November 7th, the N7 Day, new information about the upcoming science fiction role-playing game Mass Effect Andromeda was released. It has now been confirmed that the game will feature a multiplayer mode.
Mass Effect Andromeda essentially represents a quasi-reboot for the series. The story starts between the events of Mass Effect 1 and 2, when four arks and a mobile space station are sent toward the Andromeda Galaxy to establish a second home for humanity and extract resources there. In single-player mode, you take on the role of the Pathfinder Ryder, who is searching for planets suitable for colonization. In the process, he encounters some sinister aliens.

A new trailer presents the story and shows the first glimpses of the game, which will be released in spring 2017 for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. However, real gameplay will only be shown on December 1st during the Game Awards. Bioware also stated that Mass Effect Andromeda will feature a multiplayer mode. However, it is still unclear what this will look like. In Mass Effect 3, it was possible to cooperatively fight against enemies with friends. Something similar could also be conceivable for Mass Effect Andromeda.
Producer Fabrice Condominas stated on Twitter that interested players can already sign up for the multiplayer beta on Bioware.com. However, this has only been announced for Xbox One so far. Both an Xbox Live and an EA account are required for registration. When the beta will start is currently still unknown.
How about a Mass Effect MMO?
Many players would certainly like a Mass Effect MMO. However, whether the multiplayer mode of Mass Effect Andromeda will offer this is rather doubtful. A co-op mode would definitely be conceivable – after all, there are two heroes to choose from in the game, a female and a male Ryder, who are siblings and will both appear in the game, regardless of who you choose as the main character. Perhaps we will learn more about the multiplayer mode of Mass Effect Andromeda on December 1st during the Game Awards.
