What kind of game is this? Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a game full of superheroes, but made by the studio behind the XCOM games. Accordingly, the game fully focuses on strategic battles, but also on an exciting story.
You create a hero who allies with various figures from the Marvel Universe to neutralize a supernatural demon threat.

Since Midnight Suns was released, I have been eyeing the game because I am a big superhero fan and have devoured games like Spider-Man for the PS5. I also have a penchant for the Marvel movies, series, and comics.
Moreover, Midnight Suns has been praised since its release in 2022: by critics as well as fans who have played through the game. You often read that the atmosphere of the game, the story, and especially the interactions among the heroes are simply enjoyable. There are plenty of interactions between the heroes – here you can apparently dive into a beautifully designed world that tells an exciting story as a superhero fan. This group aspect has also captivated me, metaphorically speaking, in games like Baldur’s Gate 3.
What held me back was the expected gameplay. I am unsure if the strategic grid-and-card approach of the XCOM makers is something for me. This is likely quite far from a swing-and-punch game like Insomniac’s Spider-Man. It is possible that it will still fully engage me – but it could also go wrong, I thought. And I never wanted to spend money solely for the story.
How do you get it for free? Midnight Suns is currently indeed available for free in the base version at the Epic Games Store. If you have an account there, you can simply download the game and add it to your collection. This offer is valid until June 13.
