On September 4th, the action game Marvel’s Avengers was released for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. Since then, some reviews of the game have been published. Let’s see how it is rated on Metacritic.
What’s going on with Marvel’s Avengers? The new action game from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix held an open beta before launch and received mixed reactions:
- It received criticism for the gameplay, which many described as too repetitive and occasionally buggy.
- There were discussions about the character Spider-Man, which is exclusive to Sony consoles.
- However, the game system offers more depth than one might initially think.
- The developers promised many endgame contents and new updates in the future.
In our MeinMMO survey, 34.13% of you said you would not buy the game after trying it in the beta. Meanwhile, 29.69% were still interested in purchasing it after the tests.

Marvel’s Avengers combines iconic heroes with one of the trendiest genres – Shacknews
Marvel’s Avengers impresses with a well-written, dramatic campaign. From a gameplay perspective, combat is as entertaining and satisfying as one could hope for from a title based on the superhero team.
Although the online live service aspect is bogged down by overly complicated menus, systems, and matchmaking issues, there is still an enjoyable experience behind it. Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix deliver a perfectly adequate adaptation of an iconic world with Marvel’s Avengers.

Where both sides agree: Marvel’s Avengers could have been a much better game if Crystal Dynamics had focused more on its own strengths instead of chasing mainstream trends.

Decent multiplayer built on a great campaign – Polygon
Marvel’s Avengers works well as a single-player action-adventure, if that’s all you’re looking for, especially if you’re already a fan of Ms. Marvel. I see value in using it just for her. I’m a bit skeptical whether the live-service aspect can continue to engage me after reaching the level cap with the grind for loot or the later story missions, but now that I’ve overcome this initial hurdle, it’s somewhat fun to kill waves of enemies with friends.
On a good day, Marvel’s Avengers is a multiplayer game of a Dynasty Warriors in Marvel style, and if you’re in the right mood, it’s a decent way to spend a few hours, and we don’t know how the team will continue from here. On a great day, it’s a strong single-player outing for one of my underrated favorite superheroes.

In user reviews on Metacritic, there are very different opinions about Marvel’s Avengers:
- On PS4, 523 users gave the game a positive review, while 406 gave a negative one. Overall, the game has a score of 5.8/10.
- On Xbox One, the criticism is more negative. 35 gave a positive review, while 78 gave a negative one. Overall, that results in a score of 3.7/10.
- Currently, there are no reviews possible for PC.
