The superhero MMO Marvel’s Avengers lets you embody some of the coolest and most popular heroes from the Marvel universe. But which Avengers are available at launch as playable characters in the game, and what can they do? Find out here in our MeinMMO special.
You will be able to play these heroes: When Marvel’s Avengers releases on September 4, 2020, you will initially be able to embody the following heroes:
- Captain America
- Iron Man
- Hulk
- Black Widow
- Thor
- Ms. Marvel
Additional heroes like Hawkeye will be implemented in the game later, including the popular hero Spider-Man, who is exclusive to players on PS4 and PS5.
Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Co. – These are the characteristics of the characters
Every hero in Marvel’s Avengers has different abilities and traits as well as their own playstyle. What you can look forward to with the characters presented here, you will find out in the following paragraphs. An insight into the endgame can be found here:
Captain America
Who is he? Captain America aka Steve Rogers is the oldest Avenger and is a super-soldier from World War II. His powers are superhuman strength, agility, and endurance, as well as a nearly indestructible shield made of vibranium.
The stoic Captain America is characterized by his exceptional bravery and willingness to sacrifice. That’s why he seems to die heroically in the first tutorial mission, sacrificing himself. However, it can be assumed that Captain America will reappear throughout the game.
What can the hero do? In the game, Captain fights with acrobatic moves and his shield. He protects himself from damage with it and strikes in close combat. However, the Captain can also throw the shield and bounce it off obstacles and enemies.
He also masters ranged combos by throwing the shield, bouncing it, and kicking it back at enemies. With good timing, the Captain can deal massive damage.
Iron Man
Who is he? Behind Iron Man is billionaire and playboy Tony Stark. He actually has no special powers, but is a masterful tinkerer and engineer. Therefore, he uses a high-tech combat suit packed with wild gadgets.
Iron Man is very full of himself and stands out mainly due to his sarcastic humor and disrespectful behavior. Those who choose this character get a whole package of witty remarks along with it.
What can the hero do? Iron Man’s famous traits are his flying ability and his repulsor gloves. With that, he can push enemies away. However, Iron Man’s suit has many other gadgets, including lasers and missiles. All of them come into play in various combos, even in close combat.
Hulk
Who is he? Before he became the Hulk, this hero was known as the scientist Dr. Bruce Banner. He experimented with gamma rays and, due to an accident, he was transformed. Whenever he gets upset and falls into rage, he turns into a large green rage monster known as Hulk.
Then he smashes everything and everyone in his way with his enormous strength. The Hulk resembles an unstoppable force of nature.
What can the hero do? The Hulk doesn’t talk much; he just breaks things. “Hulk, smash!” is therefore the program. If you play as the Hulk, you get a raging beast that beats everything to a pulp with brutal force. The Hulk likes to throw things, leap like a giant gorilla along walls, and smash opponents with his enormous strength.
Although the Hulk is hardly controllable in the lore, the Hulk rewards playstyle that acts preemptively in the game. Because with the Hulk, the game world itself is a weapon, and those who cleverly scout things to throw and smash will be most successful with the rage monster.
Thor
Who is he? Thor Odinson is not a human. Rather, he comes from the distant world of Asgard and belongs to a people so advanced that he is considered a god on Earth. Therefore, Thor is also superhumanly strong and resilient and is regarded as one of the mightiest Avengers.
Thor has a strange antiquated and boastful way of speaking and likes to go straight to action. Thus, his playstyle is also extremely offensive and action-oriented.
What can the hero do? Thor relies on his tremendous strength, his hammer Mjölnir, and the ability to summon lightning in battle. The hammer serves him as both a melee and ranged weapon, and when he hits an opponent, a satisfying “clonk” can be heard.
He can also smash obstacles, and when he really goes for it, lightning strikes opponents and causes everything to storm. Thor is supposed to play a bit like Kratos from God of War, and that’s no coincidence, as lead combat designer Vince Napoli previously worked on that game.
Black Widow
Who is she? Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow is actually not a true superhero, as she has no supernatural powers. Rather, she is an extremely skilled assassin who stands out with acrobatic moves and great agility.
What can the heroine do? Black Widow is by far the fastest and most agile heroine on the team. She has some extremely fast close combat combos, in which she whips enemies with her electric batons in no time.
She can also hide and proceed stealthily. When you play as Black Widow, you have a heroine who focuses on agility and wild combos. As a bonus, Black Widow can also shoot with various pistols.
Ms. Marvel
Who is she? Ms. Marvel is actually named Kamala Khan and is the secret main character of the game. Because after everything ends in a disaster in the first mission and the Avengers are banned, Kamala sets out 5 years later to reunite the team.
Kamala is a young superhero fangirl who has learned moves from all the Avengers. She also belongs to the “Inhumans,” altered humans with special abilities. In Ms. Marvel’s case, this is the ability to make parts of her body elastic and malleable.
What can the heroine do? Due to her “gumminess,” Ms. Marvel can stretch her arms extremely and make her fists particularly large and powerful. With that, she can also beat opponents at a distance.
As a huge fangirl, she also has her own versions of various moves from the other Avengers. For example, she has a version of the Hulk’s shoulder charge or copies Black Widow’s quick sweep kicks.
Spider Man and Hawkeye – These characters will come as DLCs
The 6 heroes mentioned here will certainly not be the only ones you embody in the game. It is already known that Spider Man is set to arrive exclusively for PS4 and PS5 in 2021. In addition, there has already been a teaser showcasing a free DLC for the cool archer Hawkeye. He is also set to arrive at some unspecified time after launch, luckily for all platforms.
