Luke Skywalker is, for many fans, still one of the greatest childhood heroes today. Mark Hamill embodied the young Jedi, and to this day, the actor is a cult star in the Star Wars community. But did you know that Luke Skywalker was not his only role in the Star Wars universe?
Luke Skywalker is the epitome of the Jedi for many. In 1977, the young hero was introduced for the first time. Played by Mark Hamill, who was only known for small supporting roles in series before this role. He remains a popular actor in the Star Wars community to this day.
However, Luke Skywalker is indeed not his only role in the Star Wars universe. In a popular animated series, he even switched sides and played the legendary Sith Lord Darth Bane.
The next Star Wars series will follow in December 2024:
One of the most important Sith Lords
Who is Darth Bane? In season 6 of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Master Yoda encountered the spirit of Darth Bane in episode 14. He is voiced in the original English by Mark Hamill.
During the encounter between Bane’s spirit and Yoda, the former Sith Master tries to lure the Jedi to the dark side, but Yoda resists.
What role does Darth Bane play? Darth Bane is an important character in the Star Wars universe, previously appearing only in Legends works. Through this episode, he was introduced into the canon.
Thousands of years before the Clone Wars, there was a huge war between the Jedi and the Sith. The Sith lost the war. According to Darth Bane, the only survivor, a major problem was the internal conflicts among the Sith, who fought against each other.
Bane then established the Rule of Two
. To prevent power struggles within the Sith, there should only be one Sith Master and one Sith apprentice. This also had the advantage that the few Sith could better hide from the Jedi Order.
However, the nature of the Sith also meant that apprentices usually killed their masters and then sought out their own apprentice. This created a cycle that was ultimately broken by the Emperor. He survived his apprentice Darth Maul and later (virtually) also Darth Vader.
Darth Bane is thus nothing less than the progenitor of the Sith as we know them. Above all, his rule is also a sign of patience, for he prepared a secret revenge against the Jedi Order, which Emperor Palpatine executed countless years later. This ensured the downfall of the Order.
Legends offers many stories that are currently not in the canon but are occasionally adapted in new Star Wars productions. One major threat in Legends was Abeloth: A malevolent being in Star Wars is more powerful and dangerous than the Emperor – never appeared in films and series
