The actress Margot Robbie, who portrays Harley Quinn in several live-action adaptations, once said in an interview which DC romance she has long been advocating for.
Margot Robbie first took on the role of the supervillain Harley Quinn in the film Suicide Squad (2016). With Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn (2020), the character got her own film, in which she teams up with other female superheroes. In The Suicide Squad (2021), Margot Robbie last stepped into her iconic DC role.
In the films, only the relationship between her and the villain Joker has been addressed so far. Meanwhile, the actress has been trying for years to bring another DC couple to the big screen.
“I have been advocating for it for years”
So Margot Robbie said in an interview with comicbook.com on December 5, 2022, that she has long been pushing for the romance between Harley Quinn and the supervillain Poison Ivy to be finally integrated into a live-action adaptation:
I have been advocating for it for years. I can’t even tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for it. I want it too.

When asked who she envisions in the role of Poison Ivy, she replied: “To be honest, I always picture Poison Ivy from the comics. I don’t envision a specific actress doing it, but yes, that would be so good.”
While the focus in the live-action adaptations so far has only been on the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn, the two villains have been a couple in several DC comics. Margot Robbie also talked about this in an interview on November 28, 2018:
Yes. If you read the comics, you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics, it is portrayed as a friendship, while in others, you can see that they actually become sexual as a couple.
I have tried to integrate Poison Ivy into the universe because the relationship between Harley and Poison Ivy is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I want to explore that on screen.
