Bungie is currently working on the sequel to a shooter series from the 90s. The original game is now available for free on Steam and two more parts are set to follow.
Which game is Bungie working on? During the Playstation Showcase on May 24, 2023, Bungie, the developer studio behind Halo and Destiny2, announced that they are working on a new extraction shooter called Marathon.
After ten years, this is not only the first new project from the studio. Marathon will also be the latest continuation of a shooter series from the 90s. The game is set to be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, offering cross-save and crossplay.

What’s currently available on Steam? The first part of Marathon was released in 1994. And even though it might not have achieved the same success as other sci-fi franchises from Bungie in retrospect, there might not have been a Halo or Destiny without this shooter.
In Marathon, you take on the role of a security officer assigned to the UESC Marathon, an interstellar colony ship. Your task is now to protect the ship and the crew from an acute threat posed by aliens.
The fact that Marathon is still close to the developer studio’s heart is shown by the planned continuation of the series after so many years. However, those who did not have the opportunity to play the shooter in the 90s can now catch up before diving into the sequel.
Now More Players Can Play Marathon
On Steam, you can now play the original Marathon for free. This was made possible by Aleph One Developers, who had already offered the shooter as a download for Mac, PC, and Linux. With the Steam release, a larger audience of players is now being addressed.
According to the Steam page, you can experience the authentic gameplay of the original, but with optimal widescreen HUD, 3D filter/perspective, and 60+ fps interpolation.
According to Bungie, both sequels, Marathon2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity, are also set to be released on the platform. You could already add both parts to your Steam wishlist.
