The graphic style of Bungie’s new extraction shooter Marathon has sparked discussions from the very beginning. Now, however, the game is loved for its look.
What do players say about the graphics? The distinctive look of the game has found some fans. This is illustrated by a post on r/Marathon, the largest subreddit for the shooter. Graphics was also one of the most common points of criticism for the game, and for some, it still is.
On Reddit, a user shared four screenshots he took in the game. He doesn’t say much about it, just one thing: “What a gorgeous game, man.” Many agree with him; the post has (as of March 1, 2026, 1:43 PM) over 2,900 upvotes and 345 comments, many of which are also full of praise.
Players love the quirky look of Marathon
What’s up with the graphics? Marathon features a very quirky graphic style. The game is certainly colorful, yet it remains dark. One player describes it as “menacing vibrancy.” The style is therefore not as comic-like as, for example, Valorant or Overwatch, but much more stylized than, say, Escape from Tarkov.
This style has already sparked major discussions ahead of its release. Some loved it from the start, while others find the bright colors and minimalist textures unappealing. Especially the textures often look as if they were placeholders, which isn’t to everyone’s taste.
