In Fortnite new skins have come to the shop again. Players are noticing more and more similarities to Overwatch.
What happened? Epic Games has released the Ark Skin (English Ark Skin).
This skin with angel wings looks pretty cool at first glance, but looking closer, it seems familiar. At least if you play Overwatch.
The new skin in Fortnite resembles the Mercy Skin from Overwatch. On Reddit, some players compiled a list of skins that look very similar in both games.
How Fortnite and Overwatch resemble each other
These are the similarities: Both skins look like angels and one version of the Mercy Skin, like the Ark Skin, wears white clothing. The hair and halo also look similar.
The latest skin from Fortnite is not an isolated case. Numerous skins from both games have astonishing similarities. On Reddit, a player ironically asked: “Am I playing Fortnite or Overwatch?”
What players noticed: The post on Reddit received a lot of support and the community created a list of Fortnite and Overwatch skins that are very similar:
- The Reaper Skin from Overwatch and the Raven Skin from Fortnite
- The McCree Skin from Overwatch and the Deadfire Skin from Fortnite
- The Widowmaker Skin from Overwatch and the Arachne Skin from Fortnite
The list can be expanded further. But why do so many skins look alike?
This is why many skins resemble each other: Skins in online games are primarily there for the player to identify with their character. Therefore, it makes sense that game developers lean towards cool fantasy beings like witches, angels, or wizards.
Both Overwatch and Fortnite rely on these stereotypes and create skins that remind players of them. It happens that some skins look alike.
Yet it is surprising that the skins from Overwatch and Fortnite continue to look alike. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since such skins are sold millions of times and bring in substantial revenue for the developers.
