What makes Manor Lords special? In the latest YouTube video from Maurice Weber, he describes Manor Lords as the “building game of the future” because it feels like the next evolutionary step for city-building and strategy games. He admits that the game, although it has already experienced a lot of hype, is still in Early Access and thus some content is missing.
However, he emphasizes that if the planned features are implemented as well as what is already in place, Manor Lords could become the best building game of all time.
“It is wonderful how detailed this game is at every corner.”
What positive things does Maurice say about the game? Maurice Weber says that you can build in this game in a completely organic way, without rigid square grids.
This allows for placing lovingly medieval villages in vast landscapes, which he particularly enjoys. He highlights that the buildings are constructed piece by piece, beam by beam, and that the construction process is beautifully designed. Maurice emphasizes: “It is wonderful how detailed this game is at every corner.”
Maurice is also pleased about the ability to wander through the village like in a third-person role-playing game. In doing so, one discovers the many details that have been incorporated into the game.
The streamer mentions that Manor Lords is a rather leisurely building game, which pleases him even more, as each milestone in the game becomes significant.
He also loves the freedom in expanding the buildings. He tells that you can upgrade almost every residential building in Manor Lords, for example with goat stables, vegetable gardens, or chicken coops. Later, you can even add artisan quarters, such as a brewery, a shoemaker, or a blacksmith.
Maurice mentions that the battles in Manor Lords are impressively animated and offer a versatile combat system, with different stances, troop morale, exhaustion, and friendly fire.
Unfortunately, there are still too few battles, which he notes critically. The community has also complained about this, but the developer has announced that the focus will continue to be on city building.
The game has a major weakness, thinks Maurice
What negative reports does he have? Maurice Weber not only highlights the positive aspects of Manor Lords in his video but also points out some weaknesses and bugs. For example, he shows clips where villagers walk through walls.
He also mentions that there are tools in the production chain that currently have no use. In the demo, they still had a function, but in Early Access, this aspect does not seem to be fully developed yet.
Despite these problems, Maurice emphasizes that the game is being actively developed. He himself played a review version before the official Early Access and reported some bugs that have since been fixed.
Alongside the minor bugs, Maurice points out a deeper weakness of the game: the waning tension. He explains that even at the highest difficulty level, only the beginning is challenging, and the tension greatly decreases later on. This could be a problem that needs more time to be resolved.
Also, Erik “Gronkh” Range, a well-known Twitch streamer, was able to play Manor Lords in advance and had a streak of bad luck that might even be useful for the developer.
“I’m already completely in love”
What conclusion does Maurice draw? In the conclusion of his video, Maurice Weber emphasizes that it is not a problem that Manor Lords does not have everything in Early Access yet. In his view, the game is already wonderful and provides a solid foundation for future content.
He looks forward to the developments that are yet to come, mentioning planned features such as AI opponent cities on the map, cavalry troops, as well as walls and castles. All these additions could provide more tension and long-term motivation.
Maurice stresses that the game is far from the end of its journey and that there is still plenty of room for growth. Despite the current weaknesses, Maurice Weber is already completely enthusiastic about Manor Lords and can hardly wait to follow the game’s journey further.
