In Japan, a man’s love for the MMORPG Dragon Quest X seems to have destroyed his marriage. Now he hopes to meet his daughter in the game.
Kotaku reports on a 43-year-old Japanese man. He appeared on a reality show. The show is called “Ie, Tsuite Itte Ii Desuka?” – loosely translated, it means: “Is it okay if I follow you home?” Random passersby are asked if they can be accompanied home by the camera. The man took the crew to his apartment and shared his story.
The love for Dragon Quest X may have led to the marriage breakdown
The 43-year-old man loves the MMORPG “Dragon Quest”, collecting all sorts of memorabilia from the game: shoes, dishes, toys, keychains, figurines, and much more. Photos in his apartment show him next to the developers of the MMORPG.

As he starts telling his story, he mentions that he plays two characters in Dragon Quest X. One of them is modeled after his 14-year-old daughter.
Four years ago, he got divorced from his wife. He cannot swear to it, but he believes that his wife left him because of his passion for Dragon Quest X.
In the past, he watched his daughter play Dragon Quest for hours. Today, he can no longer do that. His wife has sole custody. He no longer has contact with his family and hasn’t seen his daughter in a long time.
The man says he is now lonely and misses his daughter the most. However, his own life is now more pleasant than it was before. He hasn’t really made an effort to reconnect with his daughter, even though he would like to see her.

Maybe she still plays …
The cameraman then says: It might be possible that your daughter still plays Dragon Quest X.
The man says, “Yes, that is possible.”
“One day you might meet her in the game?” asks the cameraman.
“Yes, that is possible. If she still plays, then we could meet online.”

Until then, the 43-year-old will probably spend many more hours in Dragon Quest X, leveling up with the character that reminds him so much of his daughter.
