The police arrested an Australian on Sunday night. He had been playing the online shooter Fortnite live on Twitch and apparently hit his wife, who was off camera. Children could be heard in the background. The incident shocked many on social media.
This incident is about: On Sunday afternoon our time, a clip circulated on Twitter. It showed a Fortnite player who seemed so engrossed in Fortnite that he didn’t want to stop playing, despite his wife repeatedly calling him. He only responded, “I’ll be right out.”
As a result, he got into a conflict with his wife, who was off camera. The conflict escalated quickly.
The man yelled at his wife that he would be right out, while she kept calling him and said she was fed up with this crap. The streamer eventually stands up.
A loud slap is heard off camera. Then the woman begins to cry.
Warning: The clip contains scenes that may disturb some viewers.
You can hear her saying: “You damn woman beater. Don’t hit me in the face. Don’t touch my face. Do you all hear that, everyone out there? He hit me in the face!”
At one point the man yells: “Get out now, I’m paying the bills.”
In the background of the clip, children could be heard apparently screaming.

This is how the internet reacted: The streamer was identified as “MrDeadMoth”. The clip of the act went viral within a short time after it was shared by the controversial content creator Keemstar. He is also active in Fortnite.
Many on social media expressed shock at the behavior they saw in the clip. Especially the children’s voices in the background caused horror.

Others added that the clip was taken somewhat out of context. In a longer version, one could see that the woman had thrown things at the seated streamer before. Nevertheless, it is always wrong to hit a woman.
The clip took on a life of its own and was quickly picked up by some news sites. However, there were no official sources for a long time regarding what exactly had happened. Only the video was shown.
One person on Twitter, who claimed to be a cybersecurity expert, then alleged to have hacked the man’s channels and now had exclusive information about the incident.
He was then quoted as a “news source” by some English-language websites and seemed quite comfortable in that role.

This is what the police say: Meanwhile, there is an official police report from Australia.
It states that a man is accused of domestic violence. He attacked a 21-year-old woman. This happened at 8:30 PM Australian time on Sunday evening. The police arrested the 26-year-old man at 11:30 PM.
Two girls, aged three years and 20 months, were present at the time of the arrest.
The woman was not injured but disturbed by the incident. The man has since been released from custody but will have to face charges of assault.
A restraining order has been issued against the man, prohibiting him from threatening, intimidating, stalking, or attacking the woman.
