A man wants to make some quick money by selling his old Pokémon cards. However, he makes a big mistake – but the TikTok community rushes to help.
What cards were those? The TikTok user “leighceezy” filmed himself bringing his old Pokémon cards to a trading card store to sell them. He explained that he found the cards during spring cleaning and heard that some trading cards could be worth a lot of money.
In the end, however, the young man only received $24, roughly €22, for his collection. The cards were likely damaged since he played with them quite a lot as a child. However, attentive viewers spotted an unexpected treasure among the shown cards (via Jeux Video).

What was the valuable card? In leighceezy’s collection was a special variant of the Eevee evolution Espeon. It was a so-called Gold Star card, marked with a golden star at the end of its name.
The “Espeon Gold Star” card features the Psychic Pokémon in its green shiny variant and was only available during the “Pokémon Organized Play” events, the earlier e-sports competitions in Pokémon. The card also belongs to the last Japanese promo cards that were translated into English.
So, it is a real rarity that should be worth significantly more than the $1.50 that the TikToker originally mentioned. Some of the comments under the video promptly pointed this out to him.
What is the card worth now? That entirely depends on its condition. This cannot be determined from the short video. In excellent condition, the green Gold Star Espeon is worth several thousand euros – current offers range between €2,900 and €17,000 (via cardmarket, as of April 9, 2024).
To achieve such prices, leighceezy would need to get his card graded. Without grading, the Espeon could still be worth around $1,700 (via Price Charting). Even with damage, leighceezy should at least be able to sell the card for several hundred dollars.
How did the seller react? In an update that leighceezy posted shortly after on his TikTok channel, he proudly holds the card up to the camera. He explains that he went back to the store and got it back. He also thanks everyone who made him aware of the card’s true value.
The young man emphasizes that he sees no blame with the store employees: they are cool people who took care of him well. He just happened to go there on a day when it was very busy; such things happen.
Some TikTok users are less convinced: they suspect that the store tried to pull a fast one on leighceezy. Anyone who knows anything about Pokémon cards should have immediately recognized the value of a Gold Star card, they say in the comments.
