DrDisrespect’s gaming studio, Midnight Society, loses its chief strategist and marketing boss, Ryan Mitchell, after just 4 months. Mitchell switched from a secure job as a data analyst to the gaming studio to pursue his dream. But that didn’t come true.
Who is he?
- Ryan Mitchell is an experienced marketing specialist who analyzes and utilizes data. Mitchell has been in the job for 8 years, holding several leadership positions. He is also active as a Twitch streamer (Lorumerth, 2778 followers).
- Most recently, Mitchell worked as the “Director of Data Analysis” at Extractable, a service provider for companies in the financial sector. (via linked)
- In February 2022, Mitchell left his secure job there and joined “Midnight Society,” the gaming studio of YouTuber DrDisrespect. He took on a central role as “Lead Content Strategist”: he was responsible for the entire marketing of the product with which Midnight Society approached customers.
Mitchell wanted to fulfill a dream – to work in gaming
Why did he switch there? Mitchell also works as a content creator on Twitch. He apparently found the opportunity to build a company from the ground up with DrDisrespect very appealing.
Midnight Society was my dream job. I looked for a company that I thought I could combine my content and my experience in marketing while leading a team. The team was fantastic. My direct supervisor inspired the whole team.
Ideas had to be laid at the emperor’s feet
What went wrong? According to Mitchell, there was one person in the leadership team of Midnight Society who created a terrible work environment. This person yelled at people and tore them down.
At first, Mitchell thought it was only like that during the “crunch time,” the hot phase before a game is released. Traditionally, crunch time is the worst time of development, with nerves running high. But it got worse and worse.
Ultimately, this person, with their horrible attitude, made any creative work impossible. Because you can’t work creatively when the entire job revolves around avoiding a conflict with the boss, as Mitchell explains.
In a meeting, the goal should be to develop creative ideas and consider how to implement them. It shouldn’t be about laying ideas at the emperor’s feet.
Mitchell says he wanted to clear the problem, to resolve it in personal and public discussions, but he was unsuccessful. After a particularly nasty meeting full of “verbal abuse,” he decided to leave the company. He prepared for it and executed it.
After his resignation, he wanted to ensure a smooth transition, but he was thrown out of the communication channels within an hour.

No bad words against DrDisrespect – Only positives
Was that DrDisrespect? No, it was not. Mitchell has nothing bad to say about the Doctor: He says every interaction with DrDisrespect has been positive. He has an incredible amount of good ideas.
But ultimately, no job in the world is worth jeopardizing your mental and emotional health.
Despite his appearance as an always dissatisfied, loudmouthed loudmouth, DrDisrespect seems to be a creative and professional person under the costume, who interacts correctly with others – except of course with Alex, the producer whom he fires three times a week:
