A man actually hated video games. But after he had almost watched everything on Netflix that interested him, he “had to” watch his son play. He realizes: Gaming isn’t so bad after all.
Who is it about? On reddit, the user evan_ack wrote that he was able to convince his father of gaming. That’s something special, as his father actually hates video games and everything that comes with it.
So he writes:
First of all, my father absolutely hates video games with all his heart. He never liked it when I played video games because he thought it was a waste of time.
When all this Covid stuff started, there was no live sports, and he had pretty much seen everything on Netflix that fascinated him. I suggested that I would play this game on the TV in the family room, and I told him it would be like a movie.

What happened? The reddit user suggested that his gaming-hating father watch him play on the PS4.
He decides to show him God of War. God of War is a PS4-exclusive action-adventure game. His father watched him and said that a lot of it was very confusing, but he quite liked it.

A video game hater becomes a gaming fan
When does the “conversion” happen? The player explained that after his first joint session with his father, he was on vacation. When he returned, his father told him that he missed God of War in the last few days. And that surprised the user totally:
- “That really took me by surprise, because at first he was really against me playing at all.”
But that wasn’t the end of it. Because when he was back on the couch playing on his console, his father came and sat down next to him:
One day, when he was working, he took his laptop out of his office and came to the couch to watch me play while he was working. At that point, we could vividly discuss the story and what we thought would happen next. It was fantastic.

Player gets tips and game suggestions
How do other players react? Many users are happy that the player was able to convince his father of video games after all.
So snappyk9 writes on the reddit post:
That’s great. I think the older generation doesn’t often give modern video games a chance because they still think about what video games were like when they were younger, and they come to the conclusion that the games have remained the same: “beat a level”, “lose a life”, “kill something because it’s ‘bad'”.
Other players also give him tips on what he should definitely show his father. Recommendations include:
- Detroit: Become Human
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- The Last of Us 1
- or also A Way Out as a cool co-op title, which has also found friends in our editorial office.
However, there are also thoughtful voices. User XXX200o explains that he doesn’t appreciate games that are like interactive movies:
“To be honest, I think one of the worst things you can say about games like Ghost of Tsushima is that they are like an interactive movie. That means the game has very limited/basic gameplay.”
The player has already explained that he wants to show his father the Uncharted series next.
In another touching story, a player saved around 1700 dollars, to make a big PS5 gift for his best friends. But on the internet, very few are enthusiastic about his suggestion.
