The well-known trading card game Magic: The Gathering celebrates a significant birthday soon. In honor of the 30th anniversary, there will be a special edition featuring 60 cards and costing around €1000. The edition is set to evoke nostalgia among fans with retro artwork.
Magic: The Gathering is one of the most famous trading card games of all time. Released in 1993 by the publishers Wizards of the Coast, it is played both as a tabletop game and digitally.
Wizards of the Coast is now releasing the “Magic: The Gathering 30th Anniversary Edition” to properly celebrate the original launch of the game. A display of this special edition contains 60 cards and is expected to cost $999, approximately €1000.
What does the edition look like? Each box contains 4 packs with 15 random cards from the 30th Anniversary Edition.
However, these cards are not allowed in tournaments. Therefore, these cards mainly serve as collectibles for fans celebrating the old artworks of the cards. Among the newly interpreted designs are some well-known cards from the franchise, such as the “Power Nine”.
The “Power Nine” are nine rare cards considered some of the strongest cards in Magic: The Gathering.
The website states: “Each display of the 30th Anniversary Edition contains four packs of pure nostalgia, reinterpreted in a modern context. Each pack contains 15 cards, 13 cards in the modern frame – one Rare, three Uncommons, seven Commons, and two Basic Lands – along with one Basic Land in the retro frame, one additional retro frame card, and one token” via magic.wizards.com.

When and where will the cards be available? Sales start on November 28, 2022, via the website 30thEdition.wizards.com. Orders from North America are expected to arrive with buyers this year. Buyers from other regions will likely receive their products at the beginning of 2023.
