On September 24, 2021, a new set for the trading card game Magic the Gathering will be released. The name of the new set is “Innistrad: Midnight Hunt” and it is set in the gothic horror world of Innistrad. In collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, MeinMMO presents a new preview card from the upcoming set for the first time worldwide.
What kind of card is this? Magic the Gathering is already the most complex game in the world and is now gaining even more additions. In the form of “Innistrad: Midnight Hunt”, a new set of cards is being released.
We present one of the new cards here exclusively worldwide. The “Pantry Zombie” is a new zombie card for one blue mana. Its card text states:
“Tap three untapped creatures you control: Look at the top card of your library. You may put it into your graveyard.”
Here you can see the new card:
Reinforcements for your graveyard decks
What can the card do? As a 1/3 card for one mana, the Pantry Zombie is a solid defender. However, the card text makes the card interesting.
With its property as a zombie and its special effect, the card fits perfectly into the setting of Innistrad. It revolves around undead, vampires, and werewolves, twisted experiments, and the theme of horror. The Pantry Zombie has two functions:
- You can look at the top card of your deck
- The looked-at card can be put into the graveyard
Where is the card best used? This makes the zombie particularly suitable for black/blue graveyard decks that rely on summoning spells and creatures directly from the graveyard. This can be useful for saving costs.
As a zombie, the card also has synergies with other cards that fit well within the deck archetypes. There will likely be many new variants with Innistrad.
Innistrad – The World of Horror
What kind of set is this? As the 89th set for Magic, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expands the already vast collection of the game with an additional 277 new cards. Innistrad itself was introduced back in 2011 with the eponymous set.
The world is full of werewolves, vampires, undead, and dubious scientists who draw some inspiration from figures like Frankenstein. Accordingly, the cards revolve around gameplay involving transformations, sacrifices, and graveyards. You will find three more exclusive reveals on our sister sites:

However, since in the story of Magic the protector of the place, the archangel Avacyn, has died, the people there now have to rely on other means – according to Wizards of the Coast with “older, possibly darker forms of magic.”
The set releases on September 24 in physical form.
