The Epic Games Store secures another exclusive title that will be interesting for card game fans. However, it’s not really exclusive.
In light of the upcoming Gamescom 2019, publishers and game developers are providing new information about their titles. One of them concerns Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTGA), one of the most eagerly anticipated card games of the near future. It has now been revealed that MTGA will be released on the Epic Games Store.
What restrictions are there? MTGA is not really exclusive, as the deal has a clear limitation. The Epic Games Store will only be the only “third-party” platform for the card game on PC. Those who do not wish to use the Epic Games Store can still download the game from the official Magic site and won’t need to go through the launcher.
The deal simply means that MTGA will not be released on other PC platforms like Steam.
When will MTGA be released? However, no exact release date for the card game has been announced yet. The only timeframe given is “this winter,” which suggests early 2020. This date is likely also aimed at the end of the beta, as MTGA is currently still in open beta.

A competitor for Hearthstone? In the scene of digital collectible card games, MTGA is considered the “next big thing” that could dethrone the competitor Hearthstone from Blizzard. Many Hearthstone players find the stagnation of the game terrible and are hoping to find a solid alternative soon. Hopes are pinned on MTGA.
Will you play Magic: The Gathering Arena via the “Epic Games” launcher? Or is that a reason for you to avoid the game?
