Magic: Legends is released not only via Perfect World’s Arc platform but also through the Epic Games Store. Through this, you can even play the Open Beta and receive a starter pack as a gift.
What is Magic: Legends? It is an action role-playing game that combines hack ‘n slash gameplay with the card mechanics from the very complex Magic: The Gathering.
You embody a so-called planeswalker who fights using magic. This means you use spells and summons to take out your enemies. This happens through cards that you find and assemble into decks of abilities. In battle, the cards rotate, so you must adapt to constantly changing situations.
You experience the adventure from an isometric perspective from “an angle above.” You can set out alone or join up with up to three other players for cooperative challenges.

When does the beta start? Already at the end of January, Cryptic Studios announced that the Open Beta starts on March 23. This date was confirmed again during the Epic Games Spring Showcase on February 11. Furthermore, it will be possible to play starting at the end of March not only via the Arc launcher from publisher Perfect World but also through Epic Games.
What advantage does playing through Epic Games have? You can get an exclusive starter pack, which is available to everyone until April 6 at 6 PM who plays Magic: Legends through Epic Games. The package includes the following:
- The costume “Moorland Ranger”
- The creature appearance “Moorland Ranger Werewolf”
- 2 loot boosts that increase the loot rate of rewards for 30 minutes
When is the official release? A specific date has not yet been announced. However, it is said that Magic: Legends will be released this year for PC and PS4 as well as Xbox One (thanks to backwards compatibility also for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S).
The action RPG will be launched as a free-to-play game. In an item shop, you can optionally spend money for additional planeswalkers and “convenience boosters” as well as booster packs with new, random cards. However, these do not contain spells or upgrades that give you advantages in the game.
Magic: Legends is among the 8 new ARPGs coming in 2021, while you wait for Diablo 4.
