In Magic: Legends, players do not have to deal with inventory management in the style of Diablo. The new action RPG takes a route that is more fitting for a collectible card game.
This is how inventory works in Magic: Legends: The action RPG is set in the world of the card game “Magic: The Gathering” and makes these roots palpable. Builds, for instance, consist of card decks that are drawn and determine how your class plays.
The inventory system also resembles that of a collectible card game more than classical systems like in Diablo, with which Magic: Legends is often compared. It will not be necessary to manage inventory space: “You will probably collect all spells and artifacts at some point,” explains Executive Producer Stephen Ricossa in an interview with Game Rant. Instead of managing inventory slots, one only needs to manage which options are currently active: “This gives you maximum flexibility for your deck and your loadout.”

Inventory more like a card game than Diablo
What does this mean for the inventory? Overall, Ricossa emphasizes that they specifically ensured that inventory management does not play a major role. While in other action RPGs like Diablo you have to look at how to organize your inventory, in Magic: Legends you can likely fill your inventory without removing old items.
Ultimately, this corresponds to the idea of a real collectible card game. After all, you wouldn’t simply throw away your beloved Magic cards when you receive better ones. They would more likely go to the bench or into a binder – to possibly be used again later.
This is Magic: Legends: The game was originally announced as an MMORPG, but then transformed into an action RPG from an isometric perspective. It offers genre-typical hack and slash gameplay, but with differences in loot in the form of cards.
The gameplay may initially remind you of games like Diablo, but it differs in several aspects. The unusual inventory system illustrates this once again. Mein-MMO author Benedict Grothaus is still curious about Magic: Legends.
