Magic Digital Next aims to attract casuals and pros
Anyone who wants to talk about TCGs, whether in digital or physical form, cannot avoid Magic The Gathering. Hasbro has now decided to develop a completely new game. Gameplay-wise, it should be a bridge between the complex Magic Online and the much more accessible Magic Duels . The name of the new project is Magic Digital Next. The target audience is obviously the same that Hearthstone has in mind. They want to enable an easy entry for everyone, but also create room for professional players.
However, fans should not get too excited just yet, as it will probably take a few years before the game actually appears. The official statement even says: “We are currently investing in this project, and we have assembled a team that will deliver the first new Magic Digital Next product in the next few years.”
Mein-MMO says: Since Hearthstone has broken all records in the field of digital card games, it is not surprising that other developers are also jumping on the bandwagon. So what could be more fitting than to dress the mother of all TCGs in a new guise as well? At least many professional players of Hearthstone have roots in Magic and will certainly be interested in a new implementation. It remains to be seen how the game – and the entire market around it – will develop in the coming years.
