Luke Smith shows: New seasons in Destiny 2 will be cooler than the old ones

In Destiny 2 , game director Luke Smith talks about how cool year 2 would have been in the new year 3 style.

This is the new year 3 style: When the Shadowkeep expansion kicks off year 3 on October 1, 2019, many things are supposed to change in Destiny 2. One of the most significant innovations is the fresh season system:

Each of the 4 seasons in year 3 generates a new scenario that unfolds throughout the season and transitions into the next season. New activities will replace old seasonal activities. This is intended to provide Destiny 2 with a dynamic world where something really happens that pushes the story forward. Because in recent years, it felt like Destiny has been standing still, just adding content without really moving forward.

Game director Luke Smith now shows how we can imagine this dynamic world in year 3. He talks about how a season in year 2 could have played out if it had the year 3 style.

An alternative season of the Forge

This is how the season of the Forge played out: The first season after the Forsaken release was the season of the Forge, during which Ada-1 from the Black Armory appeared. Ada-1 gave guardians quests related to the forges and has been standing boringly in the tower for months now, hardly visited by any guardians.

This is how the season of the Forge could have played out: Luke Smith describes how the season of the Forge would have unfolded in the year 3 style:

A week before the season begins, all players would receive a message in their inbox: “I have returned from the stars. Let’s meet on December 4 at 6:15 PM. – Ada,” it would have said. A countdown would appear with the Traveler.
At this time, the Guardians gather in the tower, where a ship lands on time between Zavala and Lord Shaxx, and Ada-1 appears, walking through the tower and opening a door that had long been closed. Players follow Ada-1 until she removes her hood and greets the players: “I am Ada and we have work ahead of us.”
A season-long experience begins, where Ada and the players ignite the forges in the world, complete loot runs, and tackle the new raid.

Luke Smith makes a sly joke here: In a twist, Datto and his group manage to snag the world-first title in the raid. Because Datto failed in a horrific way.

As players work together to forge weapons and create new ones, the space where Ada stands changes. And the weapons and mods that can be obtained are not all accessible through the seasonal activity but must also be earned in new encounters in Strikes – or even in the “Last Wish” raid.
As the community goes about its tasks, new meta objectives are revealed. Once a certain number of players reach specific ranks in the season pass, cinematics are unlocked for all. In them, you see the Wanderer and Ada discussing something. The scene ends with the Wanderer raising his eyebrows as he glimpses a weapon plan behind Ada.
As the season draws to a close, the Wanderer begins to gather the players around him. He first invites the players who have obtained the Dredgen title to his new room in the tower. Guardians can now collect materials for the new heist from the Wanderer, who can’t stop talking about Ada’s weapon plan.

Late in the season, you notice that Ada is packing up her stuff and soon disappearing. The weapon plans are missing. Over the next couple of weeks, she packs up, and in an event similar to her arrival, she leaves. Ada, her goods, and the forges are gone.
Banshee-44 reminds you that Ada left him the plans for the weapons and armor and that he will be rotating them over time.
And the Wanderer now wants you to visit him. He has a surprise for you.

Luke Smith writes that the above story is just fiction. But he is working to make something like this possible for future seasons to make the season pass experience unique.
