The new Fallout series is a huge success and is praised by critics and viewers alike. One reason is the fantastic actors and the roles they portray.
Lucy MacLean, played by Ella Purnell, is the protagonist in the Fallout series on Amazon Prime and… quite naive. Without wanting to spoil too much: Throughout the series, Lucy undergoes a development that can only be achieved by the harsh reality check of the wasteland.
Thanks to the series, the Fallout games are experiencing a new hype, Fallout 76 even has more players on Steam than ever. If you want to experience the series even more intensely, we will show you how to play as Lucy here.
A little warning in advance: We will discuss details of the series that develop throughout. If you haven’t seen it yet, you might want to catch up first.
Lucy’s appearance, equipment, and weapons
Regarding Lucy’s appearance, you’ll have to settle for a somewhat stripped-down version. While Fallout 76 offers many customization options, faces are simply not the game’s strong suit. In the title image, you can see our suggestion for her appearance.
For almost the entire series, Lucy wears her vault jumpsuit, the famous jumper. Accordingly, you should wear this as an undergarment. Later, Lucy wears something reminiscent of the light leather armor from Fallout 76. With this combination, you will get closest to the look.
In terms of weapons, Lucy primarily uses two iconic firearms:
- the 10mm pistol that she carries all the time
- the “Dart Gun” that she uses right at the beginning of the series
The pistol is fairly easy to find in the game. You even start the game with one in your inventory along with ammo. You don’t need anything too fancy for weapon mods here. Lucy has no scope and no barrel mounted and uses the non-automatic version. Good attachments for her build are:
- anything that increases damage, precision, and critical hits
- anything that reduces the aiming time
You can replace the “Dart Gun” in Fallout 76 with the Syringer. While this is a rifle, it uses various syringes with chems, just like the Dart Gun. Unfortunately, you can’t get this weapon quite as easily; your best bet is to try your luck at Arktos Pharma.
Lucy’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and skills
The truly interesting part now is Lucy’s build. From her official stats from Fallout Shelter (via Fallout Wiki), we already know what attributes she fundamentally has. In Fallout 76, the SPECIAL system goes even further.
Based on her fundamentals and with regard to her behavior in the series, we arrive at the following distribution (here with link to the Fallout build planner):

How to skill as Lucy
In line with her behavior and skills in the series, we have selected some skills for Lucy:
Strength
- Martial Artist 2/3
- Weapon Belt 2/2
Lucy isn’t a melee fighter, but she says she has completed combat training. Accordingly, she should master martial arts. Weapon belt… simply makes sense because magazines in film and television almost never run out.
Perception
- Rifleman 3/3
- Tank Killer 3/3
- Professional Rifleman 1/3
Similar to martial arts: Lucy says she masters the use of weapons. Additionally, these skills enhance her abilities with pistols and rifles, making sense for the build.
Endurance

As a vault dweller, Lucy is used to recovering and feeling comfortable in a domestic environment. These skills reflect that. Resilience and Aqua Girl are evident in the series as she is bathed in radioactive water without mutating directly and avoids illnesses throughout the season.
Charisma

Lucy tries to resolve conflicts peacefully. Wasteland Whisperer is the logical skill for her. Additionally, she is well-prepared when it comes to provisioning, even though she still has to learn camping itself. Chems work extraordinarily quickly on her – as shown by the Stimpak in Episode 1.
Later in the series, she relies on team strength and is always accompanied, which is why we assess her as a team player with corresponding advantages.
Intelligence

How wise Lucy’s approach is, is debatable – but the values correspond to her official specifications. Unfortunately, there is little here that makes real sense in skills – except for Geek Rage. Lucy is extraordinarily resilient, which this skill is meant to emphasize.
Agility

- Master Gunslinger 3/3
Pretty straightforward: Lucy’s primary weapons are pistols, which she is obviously getting more practice with. If you want to dive into the role-playing aspect, you can skill the entire agility tree last. While this makes the game harder, it comes closest to Lucy’s journey.

- Bloody Death 3/3 (with legendary luck)
Luck is definitely Lucy’s defining trait. To wander the wasteland with so little experience and still survive is a miracle. And usually, a savior is there, even if not always for the good. This is evident with the corresponding skills.
Quick Fingers and Bloody Death are skills that are useful later when Lucy has more expertise with firearms. However, the ability to automatically reload is once again very Hollywood – making it fit well with films in general.
Lucy’s legendary skills
- Legendary Charisma 4/4
- Legendary Luck 4/4
You get legendary skills after level 50 and they further enhance the character. For Lucy, there are only two sensible options: legendary luck and legendary charisma. Both radiate from her in the series (and other skills are not particularly useful here).
With this build, you probably won’t be the best
