The family man Nigel Brookes from England was quite surprised when his old Pokémon collection was estimated at up to £35,000. He used to call the collection a waste.

Now, 21 years later, he had the cards appraised and was quite surprised. They are now said to be worth about £35,000. That’s approximately €38,500.
The card collection was a waste back then
What kind of collection is this? It is a Collector’s Edition of the first generation. There are a total of 103 cards that the collector’s mother bought directly in the USA for about £300.
It is the first edition of the cards, which is why they are even a bit more valuable.
There are also even more expensive Pokémon cards. One card worth $60,000 was accidentally lost in the mail in 2019.
How did Brookes get the cards? The story behind the gift was explained in detail by the collector. He explained that his little brother used to trade Pokémon cards with other kids and ended up getting quite ripped off.
Brookes cleared up the situation as a big brother and got the traded cards back for his little brother.
His mother then gifted him the then new collection from the USA for £300. Brookes himself says: “I wasn’t really interested in Pokémon. I was disappointed with the collection at the time because it was one of my birthday presents and thus a waste of a gift.”
How does he feel about selling now? The lucky guy wants to have the cards auctioned. He thinks it’s scary to have such a collection, because if the cards were to get damaged in any way, they would be worth nothing.
He says about the decision: “My children are growing up, and I want to be able to give them a very special childhood, with this money we can really prepare for the future.”
