Vykas is the final boss of the second Legion Raid in Lost Ark. We at MeinMMO explain how to successfully overcome all three boss phases and defeat Vykas.
With the June update, the developers of Lost Ark introduced the second Legion Raid into the game. In it, you will encounter the demon Vykas, who is not easy to defeat. In our separate article, you can find more info about the update.
A special feature of Vykas is her “charm”, a new mechanic in Lost Ark. If you fall under her charm, you lose control of your character and attack your group members.
What are the requirements? The boss is available in normal mode from item level 1430 and hard mode from item level 1460. In hard mode, the boss deals more damage, has more HP, and more defense. Additionally, there are a few extra mechanics.
Check out the trailer for the new Legion Raid:
What are Legion Raids? You fight in a group of 8 players and must endure several phases consisting of unique mechanics. After each phase, you can leave the raid and later return to that spot, acting essentially as a checkpoint.
At the end, a commander awaits you, the boss of the raid. In this case, it is Vykas.
Upon completing the Legion Raid, you will receive legendary and relic crafting materials, recipes, and gold.
Defeating Vykas – Phase 1
In the first phase of the fight, the raid group is split into two groups. Each fights a form of Vykas, either the human or the demonic form. When the boss’s health reaches x30, the groups switch.
The difference between the human and the demonic form is the areas around them. In the purple area of the demon, you are safe, while the red area of the human form damages you.
Your group should position itself around the opponent, precisely at 1, 5, 7, and 11 o’clock. Each group member should stand corresponding to a clock position.
Mechanics in Phase 1
Depending on how many health bars Vykas has left, she will execute her mechanics:
- x50-55 bars: Vykas teleports to the center and announces the split into two groups. Your screen will turn purple or red, depending on the form you are fighting. Shortly thereafter, you will be separated.
- x49 bars: Now the boss teleports to the center and initiates an attack through a white circle around her. You must stand in the circle to take no damage. Then 4 orbs appear, each following a player. They change color, and you must quickly bring them to the closest portal with the matching color. Otherwise, a wipe is imminent.
- x36 bars: Now you must perform a stagger check. Use grenades for this, as it needs to be done quickly.
- If you pass the stagger check, a blue or black marker will appear above each player. You must now collect orbs of that color. Black orbs spawn at 1 and 7 o’clock, the blue ones at 5 and 11 o’clock. So quickly position yourselves accordingly.
- x30 bars: When both groups have their boss at 30 bars, they will swap. If one group reaches x30 first, Vykas will not take any damage until the other group also reaches x30.
- After the switch, Vykas performs an AOE attack.
- x25 bars: Vykas teleports again to the center and summons four circles. Three of them are black, and one is white. The white circle indicates the safe zone for the group with the demon form. The human form group must inform them where to stand, as the other group sees all circles shown in black.
- x13-15 bars: Here, the same happens as at x36 bars.
- x5 bars: Just before the end of the first phase, Vykas goes into a rage. Her attack power and attack speed increase slightly.
- You can only move to the next phase when both versions of Vykas are at 0 HP. It is advisable to coordinate DPS when you reach 6-7 bars. Otherwise, the boss will remain in rage mode with one group longer than necessary.
The YouTuber FRESHY shows the process in a video:
In hard mode, there is another mechanic in one of the first two phases. Vykas teleports to the center and generates a safe zone around her. Stand within it and position yourselves at 1, 5, 7, and 11 o’clock.
Shortly thereafter, orbs spawn there that you must collect. Then a golden zone and a whirlwind appear, either moving clockwise or counterclockwise. This will show you in which direction the zone will rotate. You must remain inside, or Vykas will unleash a shockwave that instantly kills players outside the area.
This time as a large group – Vykas in Phase 2
After you have completed the first part of the boss fight, you will again fight as a large group of eight players. There are only two mechanics where you can wipe if you fail.
First Mechanic: The Shadow Clones
The next mechanic is executed by the boss at x120 bars. Here, it is important to take the correct position. Five of the players stand in the center and essentially form a cross. At exactly these spots, five orbs spawn that you must catch.
The other three players position themselves at 11, 3, and 7 o’clock. They must count the number of wings that Vykas’s shadow clones have.
This is how the mechanic works: Vykas teleports to the center and summons three shadow clones at 11, 3, and 7 o’clock. Simultaneously, the five orbs appear in the center in a cross shape.
The three players positioned according to the clock must now observe how many wings each shadow clone has and remember the amount. There are closed wings, one wing, and two wings. The clone with one wing is usually at 11 o’clock.
The five players in the center see either a red or a purple symbol above their heads. This indicates the order in which you must position yourselves at the shadow clones to take no damage.
There are two different options for how you must rotate:
- 3 red and 2 purple symbols: First 2, then 1, then closed wings
- 3 purple and 2 red symbols: Closed wings, then 1, then 2 wings
Position yourself as precisely as possible at the shadow clone since the safe zone is relatively small.
Second Mechanic: Only Stop the Black Orbs
At x65 bars, Vykas disappears and summons three shadow clones at 12, 3, and 7 o’clock. Two players must position themselves at each of these locations. The other two players will spontaneously help at the place where one orb spawns too many.
First, the shadows perform a small AOE attack that lights up 5 times either black or red. You need to remember the order of colors and write them in the chat. If your AOE lights up for example: BLACK RED BLACK BLACK BLACK, you write 1-3-4-5. The black ones are the important ones that need to be intercepted.
Afterwards, each clone sends several orbs toward the boss that you must intercept. And only the black ones.
In addition to the two critical mechanics, Vykas performs other attacks that will not cost you your life if something goes wrong. At x144 and x90, Vykas targets you with lasers. You need to spread out and run away from it clockwise to avoid being hit.
The challenging boss fights are just one reason why Lost Ark is so successful. You can see the other reasons in our video:
The third and final phase
In the last phase, you will fight against an improved version of Vykas from the second phase. She will execute more attacks and deal more damage to you.
Additionally, her charm comes into play now. Each group member has a percentage display over their heads indicating how strongly they have fallen under the commander’s charm. When it reaches 100%, you lose control of your character and attack your teammates.
On the minimap, you will see golden orbs. Collect them to reduce your charm. There are 4 in normal mode and 3 in hard mode.
Mechanics in Phase 3:
- x175 bars: Vykas marks two players brown, all others blue. The players with a brown marker must go to the 9 o’clock position to get rid of their marker. The others go to 7 or 11 o’clock.
- x150 bars: The boss disappears and spawns clones. For this mechanic, at least one player must have the charm display at 75% or higher. This player will see swords instead of clones and ping the locations. A sword overlaps with a clone, which indicates the safe zone.
- x135 bars: Everyone should stand by one of the golden orbs and activate it so that your charm is at 0. Now comes a typing mechanic where you gain more time the less charm you have. Just type the displayed letters. Depending on how many players typos, you will take more damage or wipe completely.

- x120 bars: Vykas marks a random player in purple. Quickly run to him and charge your charm to 100%. Yes, really! If you fail, you will be killed in the AOE.
- x105 bars: Reduce your charm using a gold orb to 0. Then you must perform a stagger check. Here you need a potion to briefly halt time, or it will get tight.
- x75 bars: The same mechanic as at x175.
- x55 bars: Vykas disappears and summons tentacles that you see on the minimap. One group takes the left side, the other takes the right. You must destroy all tentacles, but you can only deal damage if you have over 75% charm.
- x40 bars: This mechanic only exists in hard mode. Vykas teleports to the center and executes a red attack nearby and further away. Then she spawns four red orbs at 1, 5, 7, and 11 o’clock. Players with low charm must quickly eat the orbs and then spam the spacebar.
- At 0, you must perform one last stagger check. First, bring your charm to 0 by using a golden orb.
- However, you first need to find Vykas, as she spawns clones and performs a Medusa attack where you must not look at her. Otherwise, you will die.
