The new MMORPG Lost Ark has recently entered the open beta phase and thus the soft launch. And the game seems to be doing great. Player feedback is positive and now there are also the first figures on player numbers.
What is happening with Lost Ark? Long before the release, many MMORPG fans had Lost Ark on their radar. The game shines especially during the open beta test with good player feedback. Players primarily praise how well polished and refined the MMORPG already is in open beta, as well as the large amount of varied content.
This news is now spreading in the gaming community and ensures that Lost Ark is getting more and more new players.
What do the player numbers look like? Players have reported that massive queues formed at the launch of the open beta test because the servers could not cope with the influx. Smilegate itself reported that on launch day, around 250,000 players attempted to log in to Lost Ark. This number has now grown over the past week to 350,000 players and continues to rise.
Furthermore, Korean analytics sites like Gametrics and inven, report that Lost Ark has captured a significant share of the PC market in Korea. Based on the number of players, it currently ranks third, right behind League of Legends and PUBG. However, the percentage shares differ between the two pages:
- Gametrics reports a market share of 14%
- While it is at 17% on Inven.
To combat overcrowding and long queues when logging in, Smilegate launched a new server on November 16. Further new servers are already in planning.
What about a release in our region? After much back and forth, the CEO of Smilegate announced during a speech that the company is working to bring Lost Ark to the western countries. This is partly due to new strict regulations for game releases in China, from where Smilegate derives a significant part of its revenue.
Moreover, the CEO believes that Lost Ark has all the necessary features to be successful in the West as well.
