On February 11, the new MMORPG Lost Ark was released in its Free2Play version for everyone who wants to try it out. There are quite a lot of these players, which is why the game still struggles with server issues. This is supposed to change now.
Update 10:05 AM: Surprisingly, the servers of Lost Ark are already back online for EU players. Via Twitter, the team announced that the servers are now back online. So hurry up and log in quickly while the other players wait for the start at 11:00 AM.
Update 8:05 AM: The servers are now down.
When will the servers go offline? As Amazon announced on the official Lost Ark website, the servers will go offline today, February 13, at 8 AM our time.
The downtime affects all European servers equally, and you cannot log in to the game in the meantime.
How long will they stay offline? The maintenance is scheduled for approximately 3 hours. So if everything goes well, you should be able to return to the world of Arkesia by 11 AM.
We will keep you updated in the live ticker about when the servers will return and if there will be further delays.
The last planned server maintenance for Lost Ark was scheduled for 4 hours but lasted over 10 hours, leading to some negative reviews on Steam.
Why are the servers going down? Since Lost Ark was released, the new MMORPG has been struggling with long queue times and server issues. During prime time on February 12, over 1.3 million people were playing the action game simultaneously.
This did lead to some servers having to be completely closed for new players. Specifically, the Asta server, where many German players gather, has been affected by long queue times.
Some fans have to wait up to 6 hours just to log in. This is only possible if you already have a character on the Asta server. New players were completely denied access until the evening of February 12.
To address this situation, Amazon is working with Smilegate to increase server capacity. However, they haven’t shared how exactly this will work.
Will the queues be gone? No, probably not. In the blog post, the publishers emphasize that during the downtime, they only want to lay the groundwork for further updates and increased server capacity.
Therefore, we do not expect that you will be able to continue playing at 11 AM without queues, even though that would be desirable.
What do you think about the maintenance? Do you feel annoyed that there is another server downtime, or are you more pleased that Amazon is trying to address the long queue times? Do you think they should add more servers like they did with New World? Feel free to leave us a comment here at MeinMMO.
