Last January, Korea received the big update that upgrades Lost Ark from DirectX 9 to version 11. This not only makes the game a bit more beautiful, but it also runs smoother. It is now confirmed that we will receive the update directly at launch on February 8.
What was announced? In the livestream on February 3, not only was the new Streamer Tournament Legends of Lost Ark introduced, but also some information about the game itself was shared.
In addition to a video about the voices behind the characters of Lost Ark, the most exciting announcement for European fans was shared at the end: The big update that upgrades Lost Ark from DirectX 9 to version 11 will be available at launch in the West.
Although the update itself was only announced in December for Korea and activated in January, we can expect to play with better performance and prettier graphics right at launch.
What does the update change? That clearly depends on the content you are currently playing.
- In the open world and regular areas, the changes are hardly noticeable. Here, you should only perceive minimal graphical improvements, and performance should improve by only 5 to 10 FPS.
- In the large battles or in raids, the improvements are supposed to be significant. Especially in these scenarios, you can experience noticeably better graphics and gain up to 40 more frames per second on screen. This makes a huge difference when playing an action MMORPG.
DirectX 11 primarily improves performance in areas where it previously couldn’t keep up with the “normal” areas.

Community mood escalates
What do the fans say? Although the “Legends of Lost Ark” event was actually at the forefront of the stream yesterday, the DirectX 11 update received significantly more attention on reddit. A thread about it received 986 upvotes and 210 comments within 14 hours (via reddit).
Almost all of these are positive; however, there is one issue that bothers many long-time fans of Lost Ark. Even though the Russian version of the MMORPG has been running since 2020, the West receives the DirectX 11 update earlier than their version of Lost Ark.
A large part of the voices in the comments remains positive and is looking forward to the announcement.

- Ajynn is also excited: ‘Oh my God, this is wonderful! The benchmarks are incredible when it comes to performance. Lost Ark is one of the best-optimized games you will ever play.’
