On May 21, 2024, the new content update “Resurrected Chaos” was released for Lost Ark. MeinMMO took the opportunity to ask Amazon Games some questions about the May patch, the current roadmap, and the recent criticism from the community.
What do I need to know about the new Lost Ark patch? The May update brought the following features to the live servers:
- The Guardian Raid test Hanumatan
- The Thaemine backstory for players who have mastered the Legion Raid on hard
- Six new stories plus fresh cutscenes, music pieces, achievements, and titles for the Memory Box
- The Adventure Island “Cruel Toy Castle”
- A new Chaos Assault event
- Facilitations to prepare for the current endgame
- Numerous other detail adjustments and bug fixes
You can find the complete patch notes on the official website of Lost Ark.
The Constant Battle Against Overwhelm
What is the players’ criticism? When the May update was first introduced as part of a new roadmap in April 2024, there was some criticism from the community. As in the past, players again complained that they feel overwhelmed and crushed by the enormously high tempo at which content arrives on the live servers.
We spoke to the developers: Since MeinMMO was able to speak with Roxanne Sabo, Community Lead at Amazon Games, about this issue a few weeks ago, we wanted to know from her how the team has taken the recent reactions to the roadmap and whether there are new insights and solutions.
We use a lot of player data – where are the majority of players in-game in terms of gear levels, and are they ready for the upcoming content? Do players fall behind when it comes to keeping up at the required level? How can we help them make the necessary progress, and what do players say about the update plan?
As we have said before, working with Smilegate to address these questions is an important part of localizing the game for the Western audience, and it’s something we both keep a constant eye on.

A month earlier, in April, the developers had introduced such a complex endgame system that they had to provide a comprehensive guide in the patch notes. The next system for character progression will follow in June.
We wanted to know from Roxanne Sabo whether the players’ fatigue could be related to the regular introduction of such features.
What does the future look like in Lost Ark? According to the Amazon employee, it is simply part of a live service game to release new endgame content and systems for character development to promote “the exhilarating feeling of becoming stronger.”
To combat the feeling of overwhelm and fatigue, there will continue to be events like Powerpass and Super Mokoko Express. Additionally, existing systems are to be simplified when new progression systems are introduced.
The Lead of Korea Melts Away
Since the planning of upcoming content is an important aspect to draw players to the servers in the future, we wanted to know in the next part of the interview which areas of Lost Ark are particularly popular with the Western community and whether they also use such data to plan future updates.
Smilegate’s policy is to not reveal which type of content performs best. However, we all work hard together to deliver the best experience for players with a variety of content.
For Smilegate, the raids and the story are the main pillars of Lost Ark, and those are also the things our players love! Lost Ark is an MMORPG where people gather from all around the world to fight against demonic forces. Players can not only experience epic combat mechanics but also build lasting memories and friendships by interacting and cooperating with others.

The developers hope that the community is looking forward to the upcoming Kazeroth raids that are set to follow in the near future. In addition, the game is making great strides toward the end of the first story chapter of Lost Ark.
By the way, the Western version of the MMORPG is now closer to the Korean version than ever before. The class offerings have now become identical in both regions. The few pieces of content that are still only in Korea are currently being localized for Western countries.
With the May update, the developers have even – for the second time so far – introduced skins that are exclusively intended for the Western market. These have been tailored to Western fans but are expected to be released in other regions at a later point. More about the future of the MMORPG: Lost Ark presents a packed roadmap
