The MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online has received a new update. This introduces 64-bit support, which affects the game’s performance.
What does the new update bring? The new update for LotRO integrates a number of new content and improvements.
- Vales of Anduin – You explore a new area where you must help woodsmen protect their land from goblins and wargs from the Misty Mountains. You will need the help of the Beornings and Radagast the Brown.
- Black Book of Mordor – The story surrounding the Black Book continues, where you will encounter the giant spider Shelob among other things. You experience two new chapters where you must support the dwarves and finally complete your tasks for them.
- There are adjustments to some classes in the MMORPG, such as the Guardian, the Minstrel, and the Burglar.
- The Virtue system has been overhauled. You now receive virtue points that you can allocate to specific abilities.
- Additionally, there are bug fixes, UI adjustments, and further optimizations.
64-bit in The Lord of the Rings Online
What is special about the update? The Lord of the Rings Online now optionally features a 64-bit client. The client allows for better performance.
Moreover, the game runs more stably and developers can better incorporate future updates and expansions. However, the graphics do not change as a result. You can now raise the graphics details a bit further.
Why is the 64-bit client optional? It still needs to be tested whether problems might occur with the various possible PC configurations of players.
By default, LotRO still starts with the 32-bit client. If you want to try the new version, you must activate it in the launcher first.
There are still some issues
What do players think? There are indeed still some problems with the 64-bit client. In the official LotRO forum, it is discussed that DirectX 11 is not correctly recognized, preventing the activation of the 64-bit client. Furthermore, there are still occasional crashes.
Additionally, some players report that the performance does not benefit from the 64-bit client, as can be seen in the above-embedded video. The performance gain is often not so significant, which also depends on the specific scene and the number of NPCs present. However, when things run smoothly, there are noticeable advantages. Nevertheless, there is still much to be done on the client.
Moreover, the new content is generally well-received. Only regarding the new Virtue system are opinions divided. Some fans preferred the old system.
