Ten years after the launch of The Lord of the Rings Online the One Ring is destroyed. The expansion Mordor is live. Here is the launch trailer.
On April 24, 2007, The Lord of the Rings Online was released. Now, on August 2, 2017, it is time: The One Ring is officially destroyed in the game.
Mordor is live, the Ring is destroyed – without direct player intervention
The destruction of the Ring happens behind the scenes of the Mordor expansion.
The Lord of the Rings Online takes Tolkien’s story seriously: Thus, the story is not twisted so that player heroes throw the Ring into Mount Doom, but that is done by Frodo, Sam, and Gollum.

If there had been a horde of weapon-wielding heroes merrily chatting in the chat, Sauron’s eye would surely have fallen on the Ring-bearer and nothing would have happened, so it remains a “special operation.” Therefore, the latest expansion “Mordor” already takes place after the end of the One Ring.
The expansion Mordor was released with a slight delay due to a technical problem, but now it is live.
What the Mordor expansion brings to The Lord of the Rings Online
The features of Mordor:
- Over 300 quests – players wander into Mordor and into new adventures.
- A new alliance system: Players swear allegiance to one of the many factions and reclaim the devastated land of Middle-earth.
- Crafting and equipment – These have been adjusted to improve heroes even further.
- New race: The High Elves find their way to The Lord of the Rings Online

The launch trailer for Mordor
The future is secured. The Lord of the Rings Online will not end anytime soon. Instead, they plan to continue the story based on Tolkien’s writings. The developers have already come up with a lot.
But for now, Mordor is here and will hopefully give players plenty to do. They have waited long enough for this moment.
