In the Free2Play MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online, the expansion Mordor will be released in Summer 2017. Now, first details have emerged from a developer stream.
The Standing Stone Games hosted a one-hour live stream to release key details about the expansion Mordor.
So far, we knew:
- Mordor will take place after the destruction of the “one ring”,
- a new race will come with the High Elves,
- the models of player characters will be revamped.
- A new raid will also be included.

Level cap increases to 115 with Mordor – 5 new regions come to Lord of the Rings Online
Now, further details have come together from the US site MassivelyOp. Here’s the translation:
- Mordor will bring five new regions to the game
- The level cap increases by 10 to 115. Crafting will also rise to 115, and the “Virtue Cap” to 20
- The difficulty of the expansion is said to not be too easy, but also not discouragingly hard. Following the main path is helpful.
- A trading system for “Ash” will be introduced, allowing you to buy gear upgrades that have not yet dropped. This is supposed to reduce the element of chance.
- The new race High Elves will have their own starter zone. High Elves will have access to almost every class, except for the path as a Burglar and Beorning. They will also have their own racial abilities and traits.
- The revamp of character models will begin with Humans and Elves.
- The expansion will also lead players to Erebor.
We don’t yet have a release date for Lord of the Rings Online Mordor. However, it should not take too long. Summer 2017 is firmly set as the deadline.
Summer is expected to bring a second spring for Lord of the Rings Online
Lord of the Rings Online is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary and has experienced a kind of second spring since Christmas 2016.
It became clear that the development team behind Lord of the Rings Online would leave the Turbine studio and continue on their own. Until then, it seemed that Lord of the Rings Online could soon come to an end,now the license is secure for the foreseeable future, a new expansion is coming, and the team seems to have found new energy.

For example, the redesign of the player models shows a clear direction and commitment to the future of Lord of the Rings Online. After Mordor, they plan to tell “own stories” in the world of J.R.R. Tolkien.
