In Pokémon GO there is suddenly a new update, which brings many small changes. Annoying bugs have been fixed, and quests related to Christmas have been added.
What kind of update is this? It came as quite a surprise for the players, as just recently Niantic rolled out an update for the game. Now they are following up.
The reason for this is likely due to a bug related to the rating function. This error has now been fixed. But not only the bug fix was included, but also various other things.
Bugs when rating are fixed
This was the bug: With the update, users could no longer sort by IV in the search bar. Commands like “4*” no longer worked.

This bug was added: Some Android users are having trouble accessing the game. Niantic confirmed this and added the error to their bug list on Niantic’s website. It is said that users with Android 6 or lower on their smartphones are affected.
New quests for Christmas and your buddies
These quests await you at Christmas: A large event has already been announced around Christmas. In line with this, data miners have now found field research tasks that are likely to come:
- Catch X Ice Pokémon
- Catch X Botogel or Shnebedeck
- Hatch X eggs
- Land X snapshots of Ice Pokémon
- Evolve X Ice Pokémon
These buddy quests were found: The new buddy feature is available in Pokémon GO. In addition, data miners found quests that you can solve with your buddies:
- Earn a heart with your buddy
- Fight alongside your buddy
- Make your buddy excited
- Become best buddies with a Pokémon
- Become good buddies with a Pokémon
- Become super buddies with a Pokémon
- Become hyper buddies with a Pokémon
- Increase buddy level with a Pokémon
- Play with your buddy
- Visit an interesting place discovered by your buddy
- Take a snapshot of your buddy
- Give your buddy a snack
Each of these quests has also been found for multiple completions. So it could also happen that you need to give a buddy a snack 3 times in a row.
The field research tasks are likely not for a specific event, but could soon become part of the regular quests.
New special research around Team Rocket
This was found: The story around Team GO Rocket does not seem to be over. Texts for a new special research have been found, which could soon come to the game.
When could the special research come? Niantic had promised that a new special research about Giovanni would come every month. Therefore, the texts could be for the research in January.
The quests here are likely to remain the same. After all, the tasks in November and December were also identical.
This is important with all findings: So far, these are only findings from data miners. Nothing of this is actually in the game yet. Whether the special research and the new quests will ever come remains to be seen in the coming weeks.
