In League of Legends things are currently different than expected: Before the Worlds, Gen G. was regarded as the strongest team from South Korea, and Chovy was seen as the upcoming superstar, with not much faith left in T1 and Faker, leading many to believe that the team would disband after the Worlds. Now things have turned out differently: T1 remains intact, while Gen G. is reassembling.
This is the situation with Gen G.:
- Before the LoL Worlds 2023, Gen G. was clearly the best team from South Korea and was viewed as a favorite alongside JDG by bookmakers to win the Worlds.
- Gen G. had been the dominant champion in South Korea in summer 2023, defeating T1 in the final with 3-0.
- The team was fantastically equipped: Had in the mid lane ‘Our Lord and Savior’ Chovy, in the top lane the strong Doran, and on the bot lane a super talent in Peyz.
Team lets go of 4 players immediately after the Worlds
So here is the current status: Despite the fantastic team, Gen G. disappointed at the Worlds. In the quarter-finals, they surprisingly lost to a team from China, Bilibili Gaming, with a score of 2-3.
Here died the current edition of Gen G.:
After the Worlds came the shock: All players, except for the young ADC Peyz, had to leave the roster.
What happens next? For 2024, a major reorientation appears to be on the horizon. According to current rumors from South Korea, they want to restructure the team.
To this end, they apparently plan to re-sign Chovy as a mid-laner and also keep Peyz, but new people are expected to join all 3 other positions:
- As a supporter, Lehends returns, who last played for KT Rolster
- For the jungle, they want to acquire Canyon from Damwon Gaming, a former world-class player and world champion
- For the top lane, they are signing Kiin from league rival KT Rolster

In this way, Gen G. brings in 2 players from KT Rolster, the other nominally strong team from South Korea that disappointed at the LoL Worlds.
This ‘new Gen G.’ is viewed as even stronger than the 2023 edition in the combo of Canyon/Chovy, although the loss of Doran could hurt.
What about T1? The world champion T1, whom many thought would disband after the Worlds, apparently remains intact:
