Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp (26) is by far the biggest streamer for League of Legends on Twitch. He is actually known as a foul-mouthed hothead, but in an interview, there are now rare insights into his private life: He pays his mother $70,000 a year to bring him dinner in the evenings.
This is the public image of Tyler1:
- The streamer Tyler1 is a muscular LoL streamer known for his outbursts, his LoL skills, and shamelessly lying about his height. He sets himself extremely difficult challenges in League of Legends and spends months completing them.
- Tyler1 was banned from LoL for years because he was simply too aggressive. However, he has now become the “face” of LoL, streaming about 50 hours a week and being the biggest League of Legends streamer.

How much does he pay his mother? As the interview reveals, Tyler1 supports his mother with $70,000 a year. That’s about €62,000, which is more than €5,000 a month.
He pays her to bring him dinner every evening, which includes calzone, chicken with rice, or a Salisbury steak.
His mother says she quit her old job but still finds the situation strange: “Is it intended that your child takes care of you and pays your salary?”
In a conversation with the Washington Post, she says: When people ask her about her job, she says she is a private chef, but doesn’t mention that she cooks for her son.
Previously, the mother worked in the office of an elementary school and earned $14,000 a year, only one-fifth of her current income.

- Tyler1’s father is black but was absent during Tyler1’s childhood. His mother had him when she was 17. He grew up in a trailer park, in a caravan that was heated with a stove in winter.
- For Christmas 2015, his grandmother gifted him a webcam for $50 – since then, Tyler1 has been streaming.
- Tyler1 uses only a Walmart keyboard, citing superstition.
- Steinkamp takes “Adderall” for an attention/hyperactivity disorder – he has been doing this since first grade.
- Tyler1 estimates that he has earned about $5 million in recent years. His manager is a thirty-year-old man named Ismail from Germany, whom Tyler1 has only met once. He is his agent, editor, and negotiator.
- The streamer lives with his girlfriend about 2 hours away from St. Louis, in a rural part of the state of Missouri. It is said that he has no friends. No one but his girlfriend and family ever enters his home, a “run-down house” that he rents from his stepfather.
- Tyler1 lives relatively frugally – but treated himself to a “Acura NSX” sports car for $170,000 in 2021.
Tyler1 attended the “Central Methodist University” and played football there. However, in the last summer before college, he dropped out to become a full-time streamer. At that time, he earned $52 a week and calculated that he could live off of rice and potatoes.
It is said that he was the first in his family to graduate from college. His mother understood that he would become a streamer, but had tears in her eyes while doing so.
