The streamer Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp is a crazy guy. He showcases the MOBA League of Legends in his streams and has taken on a crazy challenge. He wanted to reach the rank “Challenger” in all five positions in the game. He took just over two years and over 6,000 matches to achieve this.
This was his goal:
- Tyler1 was a strong bot laner for years. He was known in this role primarily as a “One Trick Pony” with Draven.
- At the end of 2019, he set out to achieve the rank Challenger in this ADC position just before the end of the season. Only 300 players per region can obtain this rank. In a marathon stream that temporarily made him number 1 on Twitch, he narrowly missed this goal. But his ambition was sparked.
- In early 2020, he climbed to Challenger in his bot lane position and then claimed that all junglers in the game were “trash”. He believed he could easily rank up as a jungler.
- He then challenged himself to learn all the other four positions and play in the Challenger range on new accounts.
- He has now succeeded. In a live stream on February 19, he won his last game to become Challenger as a supporter. Tyler1 has set an insane record.
Why is this special? Most players in the Challenger rank focus on one or two positions where they excel. From these positions, it is easier for them to control matches and win.
It is quite rare for a player to play variably in all positions, and even then, this person typically plays those positions on one account. However, Tyler1 played five different accounts from zero to Challenger, always choosing only one role per account.
Over 6,000 Ranked Games Were Necessary for Success
How long did Tyler1 need for this? The challenge began in February 2020 when Tyler1 suddenly focused on the jungler position. He even took a 6-week streaming break and claimed to have lost about $56,000 in subscriptions. In return, he fully concentrated on League of Legends without the distraction of viewers.
In total, Tyler1 needed about 3,000 games and over 6 months to achieve the rank Challenger as a jungler.
- Secondly, the LoL streamer tried his hand at top laner. There he needed 1,740 games and achieved his goal in summer 2021. He most often played the champs Cho’Gath, Urgot, Irelia, Aatrox, and Quinn.
- The third position was mid laner, and here he had success much faster. At the end of 2021, he reached the rank Challenger after about 900 games.
- Since the start of Season 12 in January, Tyler1 has been ranked as a supporter. After just 450 games, he achieved the rank Challenger.
After over two years and 6,000 ranked games – and those matches do not include his already known position as bot laner – Tyler1 has mastered this crazy challenge.
Everyone Respects the “Little Flamer”
How is his success received? Tyler1 was and still is mainly known for his meltdowns. This already earned him a permanent ban in LoL, which was lifted after 613 days. Since then, he has been active in the game again. It is not quite clear during his streams whether his behavior is just a role he plays ironically or if he is in the moment genuinely tilted.
He also has to constantly take jabs because he is very muscular but only 1.68 m tall.
However, everyone respects his performance in LoL. This is also reflected in the comments on reddit:
- “Five years ago, I only saw Tyler1 as a toxic one-trick who could only play Draven. I don’t really follow him, but that was a crazy challenge and he proved everyone wrong. Only truly great players can become Challenger in all 5 roles.”
- “The man has balls of steel, I must admit. Just the dedication he has shown for his goal is worthy of respect.”
- “His predictions about the opposing jungler are truly insane. He often predicts every move the jungler will make correctly. Crazy.”
But not everything has gone smoothly for Tyler1 in recent weeks. Just a few days ago, he parted ways with his LoL team:
Twitch streamer swears: He wasn’t kicked from the legendary LoL team because he is a flaming madman
