In League of Legends, the new True Damage skins have been released today. Visually, they are extremely cool hip-hop outfits, some of which were designed by a very special brand.
What are these skins? Five champions in LoL have formed an in-game hip-hop group called True Damage. Accordingly, they have received new outfits.
The design for two of these skins comes from Nicolas Ghesquière, the art director of Louis Vuitton. These are the skins for Qiyana and the upcoming champion Senna. Both skins can be obtained through Prestige content, with the Senna skin set to be released in 2020.
The remaining 3 skins can be obtained as usual for Riot Points, which you can buy with real money. These champions are:
- Ekko
- Akali
- and Yasuo
What is behind True Damage? The in-game band is a tribute to the K-Pop group K/DA, which performed at the 2018 Worlds. This was so well received by players that corresponding skins were designed. The video about the band has already been viewed more than 275 million times.
A story even developed from these skins, which is now used for True Damage. Akali left the old band K/DA to pursue a new direction. With Ekko, Qiyana, and others, she found a new group where hip-hop is now at the forefront.
The skins also feature special interactions, as this video shows. The Ekko skin reacts to other “music outfits” as well.
The idea for the band developed early on
When did the idea for True Damage come about? The website TheVerge spoke with lead producer Carlos Giffoni. He revealed that work on True Damage began shortly after the success of K/DA.
The pitch was made to Louis Vuitton with the finished idea of the True Damage group. Just a week after the conversation, there were the first proposals from the fashion designers.
These were directly very good, says Riot Art Director Seth Haak:
We actually didn’t have to change any design, except for one color, to make it fit better with the gameplay.
When will the skins be available in the game? The new skins are expected to be available in the game with the finals of the LoL Worlds on November 10. The new band True Damage is also set to perform.
The real-life version of the band will include Becky G, Keke Palmer, Soyeon, Duckwrth, and Thutmose. We will have to wait and see if the performance is as well received as that of K/DA.
