The new season of League of Legends is now a few days old and is causing a lot of frustration. With these champions, Korean top players are fighting their way up in LoL.
The reason for the current frustration of many players in LoL is the placement games, where it is decided which league & division you are assigned to. The system for this is currently quite critical, and so it can easily happen that if these 10 games go poorly, you have to work your way out of the Bronze League, even though you were ranked in the Gold League last season.
To play your way out of this league, one often looks for champions that are currently considered “op”. The problem is that these champions are usually banned. At this point, we take a look at the Korean ranking. In Korea, some champions (very successfully) played are not permanently banned on the EU-W servers.
These champs are favored by Korean top players in League of Legends
Top Lane – Trundle and Poppy are popular
- The player “트 할” was already ranked No. 1 in the Korean ranking for a short time and is currently ranked 4th. The champion he has a win rate of 61% with in 104 games is Trundle. Especially against Fiora, who is currently popular on our servers, he likes to play this champion. He chooses attack damage runes in the red slots, and everything else is armor runes. As his first item, he builds “Ravenous Hydra” as quickly as possible.
2. In 10th place in the ranking, we find the top main player “의 심”. He plays a champion that is also popular on our servers but is currently not permanently banned – Poppy! With 91 games, he has a win rate of over 60%. After her rework , Poppy seems to be popular and strong.
3. Fun fact – In 36th place is the player “Saal”, who has 20 games with Tank-Karma on the top lane. A must-have item here is, who would have thought, “Eradication of the Frost Queen”. His win rate with her is 65%.
Jungle – Elise is the Korean jungle queen in early 2016
- Currently in first place in the ranking is “Lehends”. In Season 5 he was still a Support/Shen+Irelia main but has now discovered Elise for himself. With 38 games, he has a win rate of 74%. The player “Give Love ToT”, also an Elise player, has won over 70% of his 94 games played with the spider.
2. Currently ranked 3 in the ranking is “현웅쁘” – He has played 49 games with Nidalee and has a win rate of 71%!
3. Not particularly surprising – Lee Sin. Also a popular pick of “Lehends”, when Elise is drafted. A 68% win rate in 28 games is already impressive.
4. “OK” – the player “람머학개론” has mastered the “rolling” and has already played 170 games with Rammus. He even has a decent win rate of 59%.
Mid – Zed and Twisted Fate dominate the mid lane
Currently, in the top 25 of the Korean ranking, there are hardly any mid lane players. The only “real” mid laner, who thus has his main role in the middle, is the quite well-known player “Dopa”. He is considered one of the few who can measure their skill level with “Faker’s”. In the middle, he plays Zed (79% win rate in 47 games) and Twisted Fate (74% win rate in 38 games).
By the way, against a Lulu in the mid, he chooses the champion Veigar as a counter. In the 5 games he has played so far with Veigar against Lulu, he has not died a single time.
ADC – Variety among the carries in League of Legends
The role of the marksman on the bot lane offers the most variety in terms of popular champions. The rework of this role seems to have been very successful.
- Ezreal – “Roarz” with a 70% win rate in 20 games is currently ranked 5th. On the EU-W servers, Ezreal is also becoming more popular and is often played with the “Blue Build”.
- Corki – Currently in 7th place with a win rate of 72% in 29 games is “oyixA”. Corki is also very popular among other players. For example, “네임드 Gankzero” has a win rate of 67% in his 73 games with this champion.
- Kalista – The player “지훈법사” has a win rate of 67% with her in 75 games played.
- Lucian – Lucian is also popular in Korea but struggles to reach a win rate over 60%. “캡틴뚜비” has played him 27 times so far and has a win rate of 63%.
- Kog’Maw – What is almost impossible on the EU-W servers, “vzl존브론즈헬퍼v” achieves on the Korean servers. A win rate of a whopping 79% in 77 games with this champion – truly remarkable!
Support – Few clear favorites in the difficult support role
The role of the supporter is currently the least represented in the top 25 of the Korean ranking. This is mainly because players who choose support as a main role also play another main role to climb the ranks. Nevertheless, there are noteworthy champions.
- Alistar – Rarely played on the European servers, he seems to be a hidden gem in Korea, given that the player “캡틴뚜비” has a win rate of 75% in 36 games with him.
- Janna – She is rather considered a passive supporter but can often save her team’s life or the game. With a win rate of 73% in 40 games, “엔페시아” is currently one of the best Janna players in the Korean ranking.
This is how the pros do it: Playing champions in phases
What can be clearly seen from the gameplay history of individual players is that they play their champions in phases. This means that when they have, for example, 2 main champions, they do not switch between them every game. Champion A will be played for 5 games, then come 7 games with champion B, and then another series of games on champion A. This way, they learn the limits of each champion better and can more easily see the match-ups against others.
