In League of Legends (LoL) Poppy is causing headaches for the developers. She needs a complete overhaul.
The US site Kotaku has addressed Poppy, speaking with pro gamers and Riot developers. Poppy is an old LoL champion who has been waiting for a “makeover”, a fundamental redesign for over two years. The problem is complex: because to compensate for this, her stats in other areas have been drastically reduced. Poppy pays a high price for the 6-8 seconds of “Diplomatic Immunity.” In the rest of the game, she tries to stay alive in any way possible. Some pros say it sometimes takes 30 minutes for her to be useful and have her moment of triumph.
For pro teams, this is an unacceptable concept. Poppy is too inconsistent, unpredictable. The character is “broken,” as it is said, somewhat damaged.
If Riot wants to make her a “real champion” who is useful not just for 6-8 seconds in a team fight, she needs a complete rework.
Her now outdated animations should also be redesigned in one go. The effort required to rework Poppy for LoL is compared to the overhaul that turned Sion into the monster he is today.
But Poppy’s situation is somehow not going smoothly. An overhaul has been long announced. Again and again, something unexpected comes up . At the moment, the AD Carry update has taken precedence over Poppy.
At Riot, they assure that they are taking care of the little Yordle with the big heart and even bigger hammer. She is supposed to be the next big update. How exactly they plan to do this is currently still open. It seems like her ultimate is being targeted. It is expected to come out in 2015.
