The new season in League of Legends is just around the corner. Season 14 of the MOBA brings many changes not only in gameplay and items, but also in the ranked system. We summarize what is new for you here.
Season 14 in LoL brings a new patch with buffs and nerfs, and of course new items and the removal of some items. You will find detailed information about the buffs, nerfs, and item changes in the patch notes, which will be released tomorrow at the latest.
The Mythic item system is being discarded and League returns to the old system, which has fewer restrictions on building. However, some items will be removed.
- The following items will be removed: Crown of the Shattered Queen, Everfrost, Leeching Leer, Demonic Embrace, Night Harvester, Luden’s Tempest, Stopwatch, Duskblade of Draktharr, Prowler’s Claw, Turbo Chemtank, Radiant Virtue, Evenshroud, Gargoyle’s Stoneplate, Aegis of the Legion, Lifewell Pendant, Chemtank Putrifier, Chalice of Harmony, Goredrinker, Divine Sunderer, Silvermere Dawn, Ironspike Whip, Rageknife, Galeforce
New items will be introduced, especially there are some new additions for mage and AP items.
Gameplay Changes
Map Changes in Season 14
- The walls towards the jungle on the top and bot lanes will become thicker, making ganking harder.
- The elongated bush on both lanes will be removed and replaced by a small one in the middle towards the river.
- The two elongated bushes on the mid lane will be placed further away from the mid lane to make it harder to gank the mid lane.
- In the jungle itself, new, smaller bushes will be placed and removed to refresh the dynamics of objective fights.
- The structure of the Baron pit will change depending on the game and can randomly take 3 different forms, which also alters the attacks of the Baron.
- Everything is supposed to be much more symmetrical depending on the side than before.

Changes to Nashor and Herald
- From minute 5 and before minute 14, you can now fight smaller Voidlings in the Baron pit.
- If you defeat some Voidlings, your team receives a specific buff that helps you destroy towers; the number of defeated Voidlings enhances this buff.
- At minute 14, the well-known Herald will spawn. Once you defeat him, you can click on him and ride him, similar to Sion’s ultimate.
- A controlled dash into a tower deals more damage than if you do not ride him.
- Once he has dashed with you, he will run down the lane alone as usual.
- At minute 20, one of the 3 new Baron forms will spawn.
- The Blue and Red Buff spawn as a new Void form; they are harder to fight, but defeating them grants buffs to the whole team.
- The Scuttler will also become a Voidling and will reveal hidden wards and champions in a large area when killed.
Quality-of-Life Changes
Some champions will receive minor changes to feel smoother and less clunky; these include Kog’Maw, Qiyana, Neeko, Shaco, Mordekaiser, and Jarvan IV.
Changes to the Ranked System
The ranked system is also drastically changing in the new season of LoL.
- From Season 14, there will be 3 splits.
- 1st split from January to May.
- 2nd split from May to September.
- 3rd split from September to January.
The MMR system is also expected to change, but the exact timing is still unknown. Instead of only counting wins and losses, a system is being worked on to take other game factors into account, such as deaths, kills, or overall behavior in the match itself.
In addition to all these changes, new game modes are expected, which Riot has already discussed, but these will naturally come over the course of the season. As usual, we can also expect new champions. A champion has already been presented, but the dragon Smolder does not appeal to every LoL player. A well-known pro also criticizes the many Disney designs
